In the lap band veteran forum ive read that no ones following any particular diet plan, but eating whatever their band tolerates.

Was your band not filled tight enough to limit your food intake?

I have the worst junk food habit & ive not been able to kick it, even with the band.

But im tight enough now where it is impossible to eat an entire can of Pringles in one sitting the way I would at any other fill level less than 7.5.

And when my real clean foods are too dry to go down i turn to Sliders. shakes Ice Cream and anything my band "tolerates" and ive lost 7lbs this week doing so

I think you may be misunderstanding what we veterans are saying when we don't follow a diet. Those of us with the larger gains consistently talk about the importance of nutrition over diet. I've had to boost my Protein intake alot since getting the band and if I don't eat the right foods for nutrition then I tend to eat more slider foods which I could do at first and still lose weight but as I'm nearing the 1 year mark I don't shed pounds just because I eat less than I used to I also need to pay attention to what I eat.

But I wouldn't call it a "diet" because it isn't about restricting what I eat so much as making better choices about what I eat.

with any WLS or without surgery....to gain weight, a person must eat more calories than they can burn off..whether its lettuce or ice cream or pringles or steak.....3500 caories is a pound, ate or drank..

its about choices.....i believe that..being too tight so one reverts to eatig sloft/sliders is not a way to live..that is my opinion....eat good, healthy food choices (there are foods one can buy or make) that are better options but if the person doesnt choose to eat clean, then they start to say its not worrking, lets go to a different WLS or just give up all together..

i can say eating better foods in the allotted amounts works...in 19 months, i lost 153 pounds...

the first yr, i couldnt exercise as i was not physcially able to....toss in some exercise (and walking/marching in place 3 to 5 minutes is all i could do when i started) .and see what happens.

i do not diet...i eat what i want and on fridays, i have one fast food meal...and i have been very sick lately so i couldnt walk/do step aerobics, so i watched my calorie intake to make sure i did not eat more than i needed.

once someone truly decides to do what their dr and nutritionist advises them to do, eat good, in the allotted portions. then anyone with any WLS (or not) can and willl lose weight....you just have to want to.

So true @carolinagirl being so tight that now sliders are my go-to comfort foods when i have to bring the clean foods back up because they get stuck is no way to live.

I dont plan on staying this tight forever but at least until ive lost something.

Ive not lost a single lb in the 5 months ive had the band installed and now at this restriction level its melting right off.

I will eventually have a cc or 2 taken out so that the clean foods will not get stuck but it wont be anytime soon.

I just hope you are not exchanging your health for some lbs. you can have both, but it does take some work and patience on our parts. You can still make better choices even if your band is on the tighter side such as tuna and chicken salad, not ice cream and Pringles. I have read the posts you speak of and see where they can be misleading, but the fact is, we do have to find a way to eat clean. we are where we are because of these bad habits with junk food.< /p>

Hi Pepper

Reading your post make me feel so many different emotions , I am not a doctor but I feel something is wrong with the way your doctor is doing the fills , for me it sound cruel if you can't eat healthy food or any food you like and enjoyed watching your calories of course if you can eat only slided food then something is wrong if in 5 months you did not lost any pound because I asume you was eating healthy foods , maybe you should talk to your doctor about the issues you are having with the band because it will be no way that I will go back to be eating the food that put me in problem with my weight in the first place, good luck..

Hey Pepper...I mean this in the best way possible, but I'm concerned for you. A friend of mine did the same thing...was way too tight and basically ate sliders and drank Protein shakes looking to get the weight off as quickly as possible. She got very sick and had to have the band redone. I don't know if it was a slip or the band eroded...she didn't go into details and I didn't pry. She's OK now, but she learned nothing about eating well long term and she still doesn't make good choices. Just know that I'm wishing you only the best...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
