Help Please! Haven't been able to eat or drink

Recommended Posts

Since last night I haven't been able to eat or drink anything. It all comes back up. I haven't had a fill in a few months so I know it's not that. I'm always burping and still throwing up Silva. Anyone have this problem

A "fill" is for the lap-band correct, I don't know a lot about that but I did just have a co-worker who had the lap-band had a similar issue, she didn't go in right away and the doctor said it could have gotten really bad. Her lap-band had slipped. She actually had emergency surgery to remove it.

How long have you been burping and sliming (that saliva you're talking about)?? If you can't keep anything down you should call your doctor right away. Don't wait, like the poster said above, it can get really serious. Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

PS.... Do NOT wait three days.

If you have not had a fill for a long time and your band suddenly gets too tight to the point of obstruction and not being able to drink. It is probably something you ate that has caused this swelling. When the band is VERY tight you don't have much room for error and if you get food stuck and vomit, this will further tighten the band to where you can't get nothing down.

The burping and throwing up saliva sounds SERIOUS, especially if you can't drink, if you can't get liquids down you will get dehydrated, and this will cause other medical issues, you need to call your surgeon ASAP to get some saline out.

Good luck

This has happened to me after I ate to fast and got stuck. I stopped all food intake and only took sips of hot broth. This helped the swelling to down to were I could eat again. It took about one and a half days before I could get soft food down.

If you've had a stuck episode, could be swelling. Are you still doing it?

I am back to eating food again. I just have to remember to take small bites, chew, and more chewing. I had just gotten a fill and everything was fine until I tried to eat to fast. It took a couple of days before I could get again.

Go to the ER your band is probably slipped. I don't understand why people post here serious issues instead of taking care of yourself.

The ER isn't always necessary. You should be able to call your doctors office at any time just in case you had some problems. Always call your doctor first. But that's why we have this support group. Cherly you shouldn't say bad things like that. That's why we're here to lend and helping hand. So we can vent, talk about our problems. I'm pretty sure that's why this support group exists.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
