My family knows about my surgery and I lost 10 lbs in a week, but I got real discouraged when the surgeon met with me and seemed utterly disinterested in my progress, and basically I gained the weight back in the last two weeks :( my surgery is two weeks away and my grandmother just made a comment aren't you supposed to be on a diet and my sister chimed in with no she is having a surgery that will do that for her. I am so miserable right now I am so sick of the judgement first it's because I am fat now it's because I am trying to use a tool to help me get healthy after years of failing at diets and people are judging me for that now. Merry Christmas and happy New Years hopefully next year will be better.

Laura, don't you listen to them. Your Dr was just having a crappy day. And I bet those family members are just jealous.

Don't let anything or anyone derail your excitement about your pending surgery! I'm having the sleeve from a band and trying to cut down what I eat but its hard cause nothing has changed yet...tell them to cut you some slack. I have surgery Tuesday 12-31 and my Dr told me people will try and discourage you out of ignorance and jealousy.

STAY STRONG. No one but God has the right to judge you. You keep smiling and BE EXCITED....your new life awaits!!

You'll do GREAT!!! :D

I hope things get better for you, try and focus on the fact that your doing this for you so that you can be healthy and no one else . Remember we are hear for you and perhaps your family members are jealous that you are putting your needs first and not theirs .

I think one of the main reasons a lot of us get fat is because we dont put ourselves and our needs first and when the people around us see us making a change or doing something to better our life, I think it is human nature (for whatever stupid reason lol) that those people are not sure how to process that and because of some of their own short comings in their life they project their negative feelings on to us ...

Stay strong and focused, each day you stand up for yourself you will grow more confident and your true friends and family will stand with you!

Hello...I was always the fat person in my entire family & now I'm the smallest in the entire family well not really.I have a 21 year old sister that we only have each other give or take by 10 pounds. People will always try to pull you down. After 6 months of having WLS your own your own. WLS is only a tool. You have to make changes your self. If you eat wrong you will regain. I seen members on here who fail. I change everything I was doing wrong before surgery so I would be a success. I'm happy to see it works for me. Don't let the opinion of others affect your life. Only god can judge us & only you know what's going on in your life & mind. You can make this surgery work for you. Wishing you all the best

Thank you all for the support. I guess the holidays don't make it any easier. Feeling a little more confident today and def staying away from the ppl who always throw me down until I can fully stand up for myself. I need to stop being so hard on myself, I had a bad week but that doesn't need to turn onto two. Brushing myself off and continuing on my journey to a healthier life

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
