Paying Drug Abusers to be Sterilized

Recommended Posts

This is not necessarily true. I know a few people who have used meth they say that it heightens the sex drive and you can't get enough. They also have said that most meth users will seek out another meth user because of the heightened sex drive. Because no one else is able to keep up with them, they will also seek out numerous partners while they are high. I have a gay friend who was homeless in LA, selling meth, and was having sex with hunreds of partners. He was on A&E intervention last season.

Although it does heighten the sex drive after about six months it does make it hard for men to get an erection.

ics-policy-issues/medical-sexual-health/meth-7442.htm

There is a big difference between a drug user and a drug addict. If we were to sterilize everyone who has ever used drugs, there would be a HUGE and immediate decrease in our country's birthrate. And as you pointed out yourself, after a few months of serious drug use, men begin to suffer from erectile dysfunction, which pretty much means they aren't going to be impregnating anyone.

As in child abuse why does it have to happen before someone is stopped.

Because our crystal balls are all out of order and we have no way of predicting the future.

Even if it was a temporary thing...however, an IUD or the implant could be easily removed in a drug induced state.

Maybe they could remove an IUD or Norplant themselves, but certainly not "easily". And it would be pretty evident, in the case of the implant.

I would opt for paying for the sterilization, and then suggesting help with rehab. If rehab is refused then no further money would be given. If rehab is accepted then why not use the money for furthering their education and becoming productive. I don't think there is any ony answer to this question however, I do think there could be options with it. Maybe not all of them will work for everyone. But, it certainly could be worked into something that could work for some.

The wouldn't get any money after the sterilization anyway, under the program we've been discussing here. But why not provide rehab without requiring that they give up any future chance at having children? Doesn't that seem the least bit cruel to you? Clean them up and then, oh yeah.....it's great that you kicked that heroin habit, but it sucks that you'll never be able to have kids, doesn't it?

This issue is very hard to debate because there are many special rules for humanity that are easily forgotten, and that are easily left out of the logic. I am a Christian, but I know that contrary to what some (or most) Christians think, that human beings are part of the animal species. However, because of their superior brains and their special consciousness, the human animal is given special privileges (though we call them rights).

Though humans have this higher intelligence, it has been agreed upon as the human race has become more civilized that humans must still be protected from themselves and that certain rule of conduct are generally accepted. We do not allow humans to be slaves, even indentured slaves, nor do we allow them to sell off their body parts.

As a theist, I know that humans are animals, though others of my religion say that they are not animals, but God made creatures in his mold. I resist the dogma of my religion, but atheists can easily fall into the trap of religious dogma, by replacing the standard deities with the deity of money. Just like the 911 pilots thought that the killings of thousands of Americans were ok, because they were doing it for their God, many atheists and capitalists think that selling body parts, slavery and selling reproductive rights are ok as long as it is done in the name of God, their God; MONEY.

No! Money does not make things right. No more that strong people pushing weak people around when you line up for the movies, rich people have no rights to buy life from poor people. When a Mike Tyson type character says to me a 61 year old man, “get out of my way or I will kill you”, he is no worse than when a Bill Gates says “get out of my way or I will pay someone to kill you”. The use of money does not make it any less a form of bullying or abuse.

Paying the poor, whether because it is their fault that they are poor and no matter why they are poor, is wrong when you take away their humanity or their special privileges we have bestowed on all humans and that we call human rights. It is generally accepted (except by organizations like PITA) that we do not have to pay a horse for it to pull a wagon and most civilizations believe that other animals can be used for food or other human needs, but we have degreed that humans are special. The Christian/Judeao/Muslim religions have all agreed as have most non-traditional groups. It is only the one religion of the money worshipers who think that taking away the human rights of human beings is ok if done under the name of their God; MONEY.

Have you ever had a blood clot, heart attack or stroke? We're already talking about people with suppressed immune systems.

Leatha, thank you! I had TWO blood clots that went to my lungs (pulmonary emboli) and I would not wish that on anyone. I never smoked but I was on oral borth control and obese. Imagine diving down too low in a pool. You fight your way to get to the surface to take a deep breath. With PEs, that breath won't just won't fully expand your lungs.

One other point, the United States no longer purchases blood or blood products. Donations are voluntary and tested for many diseases. In addition, a person CAN donate blood knowing it's not safe and then elect to use the "don't use my blood" sticker in the privacy of a cubicle.

I totally agree. There should be no money exchanged. Only free services. Even $2 to a serious drug addict is only enabling them. The idea here is help. I guess I'm a bit confused as to why anyone would even consider paying them anyway. Can someone explain the motive here?

The motive of paying was essentially to get people to show up. "Was" last time I really studied this (in undergraduate university when Crack and PP made its way into classroom discussion). I would assume that hasn't changed too much.

Few addicts are going to seek voluntary sterilization because they're concerned about the ethics of having addicted babies or burdening a welfare system, or because they are concerned about their ability to raise a child. They're going to do it because they see some immediate gain for themselves. To an addict, cash (next to drugs) is probably the biggest motivator to do something. Offer an addict "free sterilization" and see who shows up. Offer an addict "$200 for sterilization" and your turnout will probably be much greater.

I'm neither condoning nor condemning the practice, just trying to answer the question.

Do you castrate right after the trial or do you wait long enough to find out that the abuse never happened as in the McMartin cases about 20 years ago?

There was a case in about 20 years ago, where a rapist chose to be castrated in return for an early release from prison. His next rape victim was found with a soda bottle in her vagina and light bulbs screwed into her breasts.

These are not crimes of sex. They are crimes of anger and revenge.

The vast majority of pedophiles were sexually abused as children and most often by a family member or friend of the family. Less than 10% of pedophiles ever get convicted, so taking societies anger out on that small group will not make our children appreciably saver.

We need to stop teaching our children to be afraid of bogeymen, when it is Daddy, or uncle Bill, or the brother, or clergy who is most likely to be the molester.

Most of all, we need screening of all children at a very young age to find out who is holding in that horrible secret which will eat at their soul until they either molest or turn to drugs or some other form of aberrant behavior.

Ok then...they are defective, kill them

I haven't read through this tread, but what's the issue? My body, my choice, my right to decide -- right? If they want to get sterilized for money, who am I to interfere with their reproductive rights? Why is there even a question? I thought reproductive rights were sacrosanct. It doesn't really matter what a person is going through at the time they make the life-altering decision; what matters is they have control of their body and no one should be able to interfere, whether they interfere with an argument, money, offers of assistance, or anything else. Right?

How about if I hold a gun to your head and give you the right to decide if you want to sign this contract?

I love the hypocrisy of people who have the free will to say "no" to over-eating, but can't, so they have their bodies mutilated, saying that people addicted to drugs have the free will not to take the money to have their bodies mutilated.:frusty:

Take them out, dump them in the ocean, will help the enviroment. Fish food!

TOM, I have never heard of sombody obese killing, robbing, etc. just to get thier next fix.

Call me a nazi or whatever you like but, at some point the communitys needs/safty take precedence over any indvidual right.

I will not call you a Nazi, but this is a medical problem that has been made into a police/law enforcement crisis. And the only people that gain anything from the problem are the people who work in the government.

There has to be a better way that killing our own children. Who will the community (that needs safety) be when the children of the community are dead?

It didn't work with alcohol and it will not work with drugs.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
