Allergy/Sinus relief

Recommended Posts

I am having my first bad episode of allergy/sinus discomfort. I have a super low tolerance for medication, so in the past, I've always used either AlkaSeltzer cold and sinus or TheraFlu to get some relief. I have high blood pressure, so I stay away from a lot of the other meds. Plus, everything, other than the 2 aforementioned things, makes me extremely sleepy. I haven't had a carbonated beverage of any kind since March, but didn't think twice about downing AlkaSeltzer right before a meeting at work. BIG MISTAKE! My stomach made the most violent, horrific noises ever!!! Sounded like a freight train was trying to find its way out! I didn't feel sick or anything, just noisy! I haven't taken anything since and have lost 5 lbs in less than a week. I need some relief! Any suggestions on what I might take???

Are you not using Sudafed because of your high BP? I'm on BP meds and still take Sudafed when needed. They are very small pills so no worries about getting stuck. I also take Zyrtec nightly. Can't really think of anything else that will help. Hope you start feeling better soon. The mucous from allergies might make you "tight" so be ready for that.

No, I didn't realize that Sudafed was safe to take with high bp. Thank you so much for that information. I'm going to give it a try. I'll also try the Zyrtec tonight. I actually already have Zyrtec. My son takes it daily for his asthma. Thanks again for the info!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
