3 days post op.. So nauseous, help?

Recommended Posts

3 days post op. First 2 days were fine. Today I've been so sick to my stomach. I've been able to keep my Protein Shakes down. I've taken my liquid Zantac as prescribed twice a day. Does anyone know if they sell those little stickers over the counter or something in a non pill form? Yuck I hate this feeling.

I was just banded last Wednesday and was so nauseous because I wasn't getting enough calories. My doctor told me that I could have yogurt and baby food. After I ate some baby food I felt so much better. You can also try some ginger tea or mixing some ginger into your food. It's a natural tummy soother. Good luck and I'm sorry you are feeling bad. :-(

Definitely call your surgeon, but in the meantime try to sip Water or suck on ice chips.

Nausea can be a symptom of dehydration, and that can cause you to possibly end up in the ER for IV hydration. I didn't realize this newly post op, and ended up in the ER.

I hope you feel better fast...

While your waiting for surgeons office to open... Mine told me that low calorie Gatorade will help if you are at the point of dehydration and feeling nauseous. Hopefully someone can run out and get you some and you can sip some down. The electrolytes help. Hand in there.

My surgeons office is closed all week. I know that my dr is on call 24 hours, I'm just trying to not bother him. I will try consuming more calories and drinking more. I will be sending my dad to get me some gatoraide later. I tolerate liquids and full cream blended Soups just fine, I'm just not hungry so I forget to eat. So far I've had 1 Protein Drink and half a can of cream of chicken Soup. That's been since 830am to 1230p. I'll keep on sipping. Plus... I haven't had a bowel movement since Friday. Could this be reason of nausea too?

Bother your doc. That is what he gets paid the very big bucks for! :) You need an anti nausea med. You should not be vomiting. My surgeon prescribed me a good one. He is adamant that his patients not vomit. I didn't need mine right after surgery but it is coming in handy now, when my gallbladder acts like an a*sshole and I feel sick.

Never feel guilty about asking your doctor to give you the medical care and attention you need. That is what they are there for. If they are unwilling to step up, we have the power to go elsewhere. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
