I'm so excited that I got my approval today. Surgery for 3/5. Question is it important to exercise right away for best results?

I started doing CrossFit at right around the same time I started my approval process. I have to say, that 7 or 8 weeks exercising seemed to make a huge difference for me in terms of recovery. (My abs were in shape, more or less!) But most importantly it set me up for thinking of myself in terms of when I could go back to the gym after surgery, as opposed to "Oh my God, I have to find a gym." My exercise support people were already in place, and while I know they wanted me to be able to do this without surgery, they remained positive and helpful throughout my recovery until I could come back. And they are so proud of my 40 pounds lost!

My doc wanted me walking for an hour a day pre-op and post-op. It was 30 days post-op that I was cleared for weight lifting.

I agree with Fluff - exercising up front will aid in your recovery. I was working out or walking daily about 6 weeks before surgery. I believe I recovered quickly due to the fact I exercised prior to surgery.

Post-op, I am a little over 5 weeks out and still only approved for walking. I walk 60 minutes at least 5 times per week. Once OK'd for more, I'll add the elliptical and weight training.

I am 7 months out and this is my experience. I worked out prior to my surgery. For about 5 month....I did a lot of muscle building and cardio using bodybuilding.com. I have alot of muscle now and I do not have excess skin except on my stomach and it is not much. You can see my muscle now....I continue to build muscle now since my surgery so I havent lost muscle tone....I have lost more fat. I have lost almost 90lbs I think 88 to be exact. My surgeon said it because I built up so much before my surgery. I dont look like a bodybuilder though. I look feminine.

I am so glad this was started! I was asking my NUT this question today. Of course she wants me to work out but I didnt realize how if helped with recovery. I will def start back up!

I am pre op still waiting on a date. Have cut out caffeine and carbonation. Trying to eat smaller portions... getting my mind ready, or trying to at least

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
