I have a math question for all you math wizards out there (this is for you GamerGirl!! LOL).

When I had this surgery 3 months ago, no one gave me a "Goal Weight". My dr. only told me

that statistically I would lose about 60 percent of my extra body weight. I pulled a number out of

my @## as a goal weight to be 150, not basing that on any science or math. This weekend, I did some

calculating on my own, and came up with a healthy goal weight, which is considerably higher than I

thought it should be. Can anybody help me and see if I am correct in my calculations? I am basing these

calculations on equations that I found on the internet. Ok, here goes.

Starting weight: 275

Current weight: 225

Height 5'5"

Current Body Fat: 39 % (I have a scale that measures these out. I know they might not totally accurate.)

Current pounds of fat: 89

According to the calculations that I found, (I am at work right now, so I don't have them) to have a healthy

body fat percentage, I should weigh between 177 and 207.

Does any one have any idea how many "pounds of fat" a healthy 46 year old female should have on

her body. Not only percentage, but actual pounds? thanks for any help.

hah! I can solve this for you. My son created a calculator based on my formula which I need to find a place to host.

But to give you the answer, tell me what percent body fat you want.

Btw, I want to be 25% body fat, and based on that and my current lean body mass, my goal is at 162, which is decidedly higher than the 135 the actuarial tables dictate for my 5'6 frame.

Oh and here are the pictures I used to determine ideal body fat. Of course, we won't look like these young beauties who are photo-shopped, our skin will sag, our tummies won't be this smooth, but blur your eyes and look and pay attention to the arms, thighs etc. and pick.

I picked 25% for two reasons: one, i like curves on me and two, there don't seem to be any health advantages below 25% for women.

Anyone else who wants this, until I can get the calculator hosted (i.e., as soon as my lazy ass son wakes up), I need the following:

1. Current weight

2. Current body fat percentage

3. Desired body fat percentage

This is a random fact that does not answer your question, but I recently learned that a BMI less than 30% is necessary to donate a kidney....

Compute your lean body weight if you’re female.(What your body weighs with no fat) Your lean body weight is equal to (0.732 x total weight) - (0.157 x waist measurement) – (0.249 x hip measurement) + (0.434 x forearm measurement) + (wrist measurement / 3.14) + 8.987. In this example, you weigh 143 pounds and have a waist measurement of 28 inches. Your hip measurement is 39 inches, your forearm measurement is 10 inches, and your wrist measurement is 6.5 inches. You have a lean body weight of (0.732 x 143) - (0.157 x 28) – (0.249 x 39) + (0.434 x 10) + (6.5 / 3.14) + 8.987 = 106 pounds.

The final answer is what your body weighs with no fat calculated in. If you want to know what your weight would be at 15% multiply your lean body weight by 1.15. multiply by 1.25 for 25%, 1.30 for 30%, 1.40 for 40% etc.

I am a large framed 5'8" female. My lean body weight per this calculation is 147.63. If I multiply that by 1.25 my goal weight of 25% fat is 184.

Ok, GamerGirl, I am gonna be honest.......I like the look of the 30% body fat! Are you telling me I won't look like that?! LOL!

Those pics really helped put it in perspective! Thanks again!

Although, looking at those pics you posted, my body (which is 39% fat, supposedly) looks more like the 45%.

Yeah I'm having the same issue. I'm at 31%but I look more like the 35%. My husband is at 22%but looks. More like 25%. I wonder if it isn't the excess skin etc.

I will do this for you as soon as I can.

okay so at 30% body fat, assuming you maintain ALL your current lean mass, your GW should be 196 lbs. Of that, about 59 lbs will be fat

at 25% bf, your gw would be 183 lbs, of which 46 lbs would be fat. Does that answer your question?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
