20 days out and not losing?

Recommended Posts

You are in the healing phase and should not be expecting weight loss at this time. That will come when you get the right fill for you. Please don't worry about the scale right now! Some people even gain -- your body is adjusting and until there is good band restriction you are basically on a diet. Do the best you can and don't fret. Best wishes and congratulations on this step toward your healthy future!

I am 20 days out of my procedure- I have lost 4lbs. Why? I am following the diet to a tee??? Please advise

I had bi-lateral hip replacement surgery in October. I got on the scale about three weeks later and was 15 lbs. heavier than the day of surgery. It took another month for that weight to come off and it had nothing to do with what I was eating. It was all about the swelling and fluids in my body that just had to dissipate and be reabsorbed. You are going through a similar situation. As long as you follow the rules, you will lose...just be patient.

to gain actual/true weight is to eat more calories than one burns off...

3500 calories is a pound ate or drank.......and if you dont know or believe, but if one loses inches, they are losing weight regardless of what the scale says or dont say..(no matter which WLS one has)

scale goes up and down all day long........you are way toooo focused on that what you should focus on is healing, learning how to eat better foods (when that phase arrives) and last but not least, understand, you wont lose it all over night...if you cant be positive now, while losing sorta fast on liquids what will you do when it does really slow down?? give up? bit* , p*iss, moan???

NO, you keep doing the right thing and let the band, or any wls work and we help by doing our part...its a day in and day out process..

I, too, felt like a failure for the 1st couple months. I went back for my check up, they said you are doing great, 4 lbs in a month! That is 1 pound a week. It is equal to 52 lbs in a year! Now, that should make you feel better. But, truly, after healing and exercise, the weight will start to come off. I remember that I bought a dress at Easter(my surgery was Oct 30, 2009), wore it once, and then went to put it back on, it was like a wrap around! Cheer up, this is something new, a new way of life! Best wishes, Karen..aka..kll724

The post op diet was not developed for you to lose weight. It's designed to allow your stomach to heal from the surgery. Most of us are not on any kind of diet. We just eat less but try to eat healthy.

Your band won't work it's magic till it's adjusted properly. That may be 1 or 6 fills.

I too am 20 days post op. I lost 16 pounds the first 10 days, and now feel like I'm just coasting. I haven't weighed, as I normally weigh at work, and I'm not sure how accurate my scale at home is. Any suggestions? Feeling bummed. :(

Am I missing something? Why are you bummed?

Buy a scale? Read the posts above, they address issues in the first 20 days.

One more thing. You hijacked this thread. Don't take it like it sounds. Only 6 people follow this thread so you won't get much response. You have to start your own topic if you want more exposure? Hundreds of people follow the topics but there are only 6 of us following this thread.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
