Also what should I take for gas, stomach/throat growling etc.. Please give me some idea what I should buy. Need to buy them tomorrow. Your help will be appreciated...

Hi donaboss,

My surgery is scheduled for December 26. I have been using Protein shakes for Breakfast or lunch even though my surgeon has me on an Atkins diet. The ones I like are Muscle Milk, Atkins and at BJ's I got Premier Protein Shakes which are really good. My doctor's office gave me a whole schedule for before and after the surgery. I guess the most important things you'll need are Gas-X strips, some kind of chapstick of lip moisturizer and throat lozenges. Also, you might want to take your cell phone, phone charger, socks and slippers, a pillow and anything else that will make you comfortable. As far as pain medicine, I think the hospital will give you that if needed.

Hope this helps...good luck. If I can be anymore help, let me know.

Betty

When I left the hospital I went to cvs to get my meds and I bought

Gas X chewable

Pepcid

You may need something for Constipation

And all your Vitamins ur doc told you u need

Don't forget chap stick one of the most important as you won't drink or eat for almost 24 hrs

Maybe a pillow

They provide socks and also u will be in hospital gear the whole time until it's time to go home

I advise stretch pants and a tank n sweater!!

My surgery was on dec 10 and everything wen great.

Gas was the worst for 2-4 days after surgery it hurts so bad

You're welcome, donaboss. I've been reading a lot of posts and most people said that after the surgery, our mouths and lips will be really dry, even though they give us ice chips. I glad this helped, also the worst complaint was pain in the shoulders from the air they pump into our stomachs, that's why gas-x strips are important. Also, if you bring a pillow, just don't have a white pillowcase on it!

I'm getting really excited...hope we both do well.

Betty

You do not need to take any meds, all that will be provided at the hospital and at discharge.

Just loose fitting sweat pants to cover your behind and a matching top to wear home. Be sure to fill your discharge prescription cos you're gonna need them.

A good Protein I can recommend is nectar by Syntax. The vanilla bean makes a fine shake when mixed with lukewarm milk2%.

I am having surgery on the 30th as well. For the hospital, I am keeping it very simple. I am going to wear the hospital gown during my stay so I don't need to pack pjs. I plan to wear the clothes I wear to the hospital home from the hospital. I am taking my phone charger, chapstick, gas -x strips, headphones, a sleep mask, extra undies. I want it all to fit in my purse.

I did buy a heating pad for when I get home, I read that it can help with gas pain.

My doctor is really conservative about advancing my diet post op. I will be on Clear liquids for 10 days, Day 10-14 I will add a clear Protein drink (Ensure Clear, Isopure etc), Day 14 Start full liquids.

I have been on a liquid diet for a week now (one week to go) that includes 6 Protein shakes per day. The only one I can stomach from the list my doctor allows is Carnation Instant Breakfast-Sugar Free.

Good luck!

I keep saying this, but if you are bringing electronics (even a phone) bring an extension cord for your charger. A lot of hospitals don't have plugs that are close to the bed.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
