I like some of the Truth* ads. Reminds me of what Benetton was doing in the early 90s. There is one with some "cowboys" at a campfire in the street, one singing with a voice box, the other playing the guitar. The song goes something like:

Oh, you don't always die from tobacco

Sometimes you just lose a lung

Oh, you don't always die from tobacco

Sometimes they just snip out your tongue

And you won't sing worth a heck

With a big hole in your neck

Because you dont' always die from tobacco

I find that one of the more effective ones too Wheetsin. Another one they had to pull that really tickled me was where they were all at a party, and a handsome man was eyeing a beautiful woman, he puts a cigarette in his mouth and just as he lights it it goes limp....hinting that smoking may cause other things to go limp. The visual was just funny to me!

Montana Meth is available on HBO on Demand, if you have that feature. Also, the entire Addiction series. One of the most powerful, most brutal, yet absolutely TRUE documentaries is TV Junkie.

Winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, this documentary follows TV journalist Rick Kirkham's downfall into addiction. The film was assembled from more than 3,000 hours of footage shot by Kirkham of nearly every facet of his life from age 14 on--including the birth of his sons, his frequent cocaine binges, painful family arguments, and even visits from the police. Directed by Michael Cain and Matt Radecki.

I think TV Junkie will soon be available on DVD, if it isn't already. Maybe you can Google it and find it for sale on the Net...I don't know. But it sure would be worth the price.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
