gamergirl 4,610 Posted December 22, 2013 I know, sounds weird right?? But do you know why I'm miserable? I ate dessert at our christmas/birthday dinner and although I ate only 4 spoons of mousse, it made me sooooooo sick! first real helping of dessert since the surgery and I swear I thought I was going to hurl, sweat, and pass out and the only issue was which was going to happen first. A little walk around the restaurant cured me but I was so so so glad that my sleeve didn't love the sugar. Other things she hates: bread, potatoes and dry chicken, all of which go thunk really hard. All else has been easily tolerated. I know this won't always be true and at some point, if I keep "trying" my sleeve might adjust to the sugar but today, I'm thankful it didn't. Part of me kept hoping I'd really have a horrible reaction so I'd associate sugar with bad outcomes, and the rest of my brain didn't want to ruin my son's birthday lunch. Also, as a carb addict, I know it's not that simple. I wish we always felt bad if we did bad things, but if that were true, I wouldn't have needed the sleeve, right? What does your sleeve hate? 3 LindafromFlorida, reading mom and 1Day1Life4Now reacted to this
able2cope 193 Posted December 22, 2013 I'm like you - my sleeve doesn't like dry chicken, potatoes (unless well mashed), rice, and I've never tried bread or bread type products as I don't want to go down that route - would end up eating way too much of it... too much sugary products (more than a couple spoons) gives me the sweats too.. 2 gamergirl and LindafromFlorida reacted to this
gamergirl 4,610 Posted December 22, 2013 I had one bite of bread once at a restaurant at thanksgiving. That was it. I was done eating. I had only had 2 bites of meat before then, but I couldn't eat another thing after that bread. Learned my lesson.
ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted December 22, 2013 (edited) I wish we always felt bad if we did bad things - what does your sleeve hate? gg wish my sleeve didn't tolerate foods like bread, potatoes, sweets et al but it doesn't mind any food i was having a whole scrambled egg within a month i hear sooooo many people say they could only eat about 1/2 an egg - or couldn't tolerate it at all i had a few bites of a sweet potatoes maybe twice when we went out delicious, no problems but I don't miss potatoes - so i don't buy them i will have an Arnold Sandwich Thins (bread) a couple times a week for lunch the sandwich thin is yummy looks like a bagel - pre-cut i pop it in toaster, put my tuna or egg salad on, ummmmm ummmm good my tummy loves chicken, thats a good thing cuz i love it back in my whole 2 years being PO, i can count on one hand on how many times i vomitted might sound like a weird comment glad i don't have to deal with the excessive vomitting many go through i can only imagine how horrible/difficult that must be but......a little puke once in a while would be accceptable to remind me not to do eat this or that again i feel like i have to frequently work harder not to eat something because my tummy allows me to eat it, but i'd rather/shouldn't eat as expression goes just because you can, doesn't mean you should kathy Edited December 22, 2013 by proudgrammy 2 gamergirl and M2G reacted to this

newat52 1,613 Posted December 23, 2013 Not a thing my sleeve of steel doesn't like. I'm 9 months out and i've not vomited, slimed or had any ill effects whatsoever. Scares me a bit because it's all up to me now. 1 gamergirl reacted to this
scarlet333 386 Posted December 23, 2013 I too have a sleeve of steel and can eat anything. The only time I made myself sick or slimy as we say is when I ate one too many bites of some delicious steak at a restaurant. I can however be perfectly happy with just a few bites of cake, pie, ice cream, Cookies etc. That is new since pre-sleeve I wasn't content till it was all gone. 1 gamergirl reacted to this
gamergirl 4,610 Posted December 23, 2013 Yesterday was a revelation for me in another way as well. I ate 1,100 calories for the first time in 5 months. I've been having trouble hitting 800 so far. But it was so easy to do yesterday. You know how? 1 Italian sausage and 4 bites of mousse. That right there was almost 400 calories. It was SO easy to go over on calories simply with two "bad" choices", that was quite an awakening. So far, I've been extremely strict with myself and have not eaten anything "off plan". Yesterday was a very educational day in that sense. Very grateful for it.
M2G 1,836 Posted December 23, 2013 Put me in the "My Sleeve Tolerates Everything" camp... Honestly...and this is just my opinion...I think anyone that has "issues" with things early out, may find that with time even those things that they have "issues" with, well, those issues might disappear over time. I've even known some RNY people who's "dumping" evaporates over time. At any rate, yeah, I knew going into surgery that the sleeve wouldn't prevent me from eating anything, so that it would be up to me to decide what to eat. That is the biggest reason I wanted the sleeve, because I wanted to dictate my menu. Oh and I've never once had anything come back up in the entire 3+ years of being sleeved. NEVER! (Thankfully!) Kathy (proudgrammy) says it best when she says "Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD!" Yep, totally true! 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this

I tend to agree with you and that's what I meant about if I am stupid enough to keep "trying" it, I'm sure it will tolerate it just fine. I mean, everything gets easier with time, why wouldn't sugar? I was going to make corn and potatoes for the kids' Christmas meal and the experience yesterday has told me that if I do, I better not have any. Too slippery a slope and why? There are plenty of other yummy veggies instead that are not starchy. 1 M2G reacted to this
