Starting The Liquid Diet

Recommended Posts

Day 4 of my liquid diet...still sticking to it thru Christmas. it's hard I will admit, I'm struggling with all the holiday food and candies all around, but my surgery is now less than a week away (December 31st) and I want to be ready as possible.

The Protein Shakes are ok, but the pineapple and apricot Protein Shake makes me feel sick .. Maybe that's a good thing since I'm not hungry. This site has been a godsend and a great support leading up to the big day... Thank you all.

I have to use all the food my doctor gave me. No swaying whatsoever. I couldn't tolerate the cream of brocolli so I switched to the cream of chicken. I will now need another box to substitute. I am drinking the Unjury chocolate shakes and health wise liquids.

Ah, the dreaded (but necessary, lol) liquid diet. What got me through was LOTS of GNC Total Lean Protein shakes and various flavors of broth from the Swanson brand. Not sure if it's still going on right now, but when I was doing my clear diet (I started on Dec 14 - 22) GNC was having a holiday special where it was buy two cases of Protein shake and get 1 free. The cases are 4 bottles of 12oz drink, and each case is about $10, so it saved me a good amount of money.

I am also on the pre op diet right now. I can have Protein shakes, sugar free Jello, broth, sugar free Popsicles. I must admit I thought the popsicles would be terrible because it is so cold out now, but crunching on them has been helpful.

GNC still has the buy 2 get 1 free, I just got some yesterday ... They're pretty good and there are 25grams of Protein per shake :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
