Hi All,

I am newly sleeved and finally starting to feel better and see some results - a very happy day for me indeed!

Anyway, I was wondering if people could recommend good WLS - VSG books and cookbooks - I actually have a bit of spare time at the moment and would love to read something encouraging and have some plans for when I can start adding real foods and how to do that.

Thanks in advance,

Tammie

Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook for Dummies. Written by in collaboration with Chef David Fouts, who is a WLS patient himself. The book is about eating well after WLS. It shows how to plan, shop for, and cook delicious foods at all four stages of the post surgery diet. The book is designed to meet the needs of WLS patients and has plenty of recipes for every level. I bought it used from Amazon.com.< /p>

I just got 3 books in the mail this morning..I am interested in reading all three..They are: why We Get Fat and What To Do About It. Good Calories Bad Calories: Wheat Belly.

Two are written by Gary Taubes. And the third is written by William Davis, MD

I know nothing about the value of these books but hope I learn something cool... :)

I bought Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients by Colleen Cook, and Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery by Patt Levine. I will confess I haven't made much out of the cookbook, but I like the way it's laid out & it has a lot of diverse recipes.

I've also bought a few paleo cookbooks, since that approach fits in well with a high protein/low carb style of eating. One of my favorites is Well Fed by Melissa Joulwan.

I read Why We Get Fat and What To Do About It by Gary Taubes and thought it was very enlightening. It got a bit technical at times but I liked it. I would also recommend How Weight Loss Surgery Transformed my Body and Messed with my Head by Jen Larsen.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
