I was sleeved on Tuesday. The first couple days were rough, but I'm feeling much better now. I have found that I can drink fluids faster than 1-2 oz every 20 minutes.

I know when I go to purées next week I will be allowed 4 oz of yogurt at one sitting. Am I doing damage by drinking more clear (calorie free) liquids than I'm supposed to?

When I did the contrast swallow they had me drink a big cup of stuff that almost immediately emptied into my intestines. I go slow with yogurt and Protein shakes, but am I doing damage or stretching my pouch? My sleeve is tolerating it very well.

Advice please.

That was my experience, too. From what I have read on here, it is not out of the ordinary.

I'm almost three weeks out, and I've asked the same thing of my surgeon, and his nurse, and the nurses in the hospital, and the surgeon again -- haha! I have had ZERO trouble taking in all kinds of fluids, even straight out of surgery. At first, I couldn't tolerate cold stuff, but now, my only intolerance is Popsicle. I can drink Water and Protein almost as quickly as if I hadn't even had surgery. Every single medical professional I have asked insists that there is no problem with this and that it's doing no damage. They've assured me it's a blessing, and that when purees and soft foods are introduced (in a few more days) that I'll notice the restriction. I do notice when I have something thicker on my full liquid plan, it takes me a while to get liquids down in that half-hour after, so maybe there's something to what they're saying. :) I say don't worry, and drink on!

Good things to hear. I know when food enters the equation that I'll fill up much faster and I simply can't imagine that liquids that are moving so fast could be damaging me. So happy to hear it! Thanks everyone.

Did you find success with your sleeve or do you think that drinking so quickly could have impeded your progress?

I've had great success.

If you're like me, you'll know when you've gotten full. The pressure will be pretty bad. It's very difficult to stretch your sleeve, so I wouldn't worry about how much you're drinking. Just take it slow until you learn what your limits are.

I could drink large amounts of liquids soon after surgery and still can. However dense Protein and food in general still fill me up quite quickly, I am almost 14 months post surgery and have been very happy with my weight lose. So I think you should be happy with the fact that you can drink easily and enjoy your success which I'm sure you be seeing shortly:)

I think each one of hears about stretching the sleeve and thinks we could be the one. Follow your guidelines, I don't think our bodies will let us overdo it as we are given warnings, hiccups, burps, and an uncomfortable feeling to remind us. As I experienced 3 weeks out not chewing mushy chicken well enough (and probably a bigger bite than I should have), I got a severe choking reminder. Lesson learned!!!!!

I got the same message today from my NP. This is not a problem but instead a stroke of luck. I have certainly been warned to go SLOW with purees.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
