Not the response you wanted...Oh you've lost weight? really?

Unfortunately older people think eating everything on your plate shows how much you love them. I know it's hard but you will just have to let gramma's comments roll off and keep it moving. Next time she offers you to take something home, take it, smile and say thank you, but you don't have to eat it!! She will never know and you can keep the peace. I have only shared with my family and very close friends that I have even had this surgery. Some people have noticed and other people have not said a word, but that's ok. I made this decision for me and not them. Best of luck to you and congrats on such a great loss. I can't wait to get to 50lbs lost!!!

I think sometimes it is difficult for people to accept changes. If your family is like mine, eating is a celebration. When we get together we cook and we eat! Most older people see nothing wrong with a little "meat on the bones" and think all these weight loss ideas are pointless. I think several people fail to understand that it's more than looking good. We want to be healthy. I want to lessen the pain on my already arthritic knees... I want to avoid the borderline diabetes... and mostly I want to FEEL GOOD!!!!

I don't want to think of it as some people are haters. Like I keep my procedure no secret from anyone as when I am excited I can't keep my mouth shut! Most people say oh you aren't even big enough to consider surgery. I say, funny a team full of experts disagree! People can say things to hurt our feelings sometimes intentionally, sometimes not. I think it is important to stay focused and remember what YOU WANT in life. Think about it... how many times have we heard hurtful things about being overweight? I know there are many times I have felt uncomfortable or family members made comments that hurt my feelings. Either way, family will be family!

Good luck !

Some people just dont get it, I am very lucky and have supportive friends and family.

It sounds that you are used to her not being supportive of anyone's weight loss but think that she will be different with you.

Grandma's, and I am one, do'nt change easily, do what you have done with her "compliments" all your life - file them in the trash can and go on with what you know is true.

If you are having trouble keep one pair of your way too big scrubs and hang a pair of of the size you want to be next to each other. Every day you get this treatment look at the big ones, look at your goal and look where you are that day. That will make it more tangible and you will be able to brush off those "compliments".

Believe in yourself and let those taunts die!

Jealousy is a bitch. Grandma thinks potatoes are love and wants to give some to everyone. Yes, we people over 65 can be abrasive sometimes, but God love us we care. As far as sisters go. Well, I don't have any so can't comment. Fat sister wishes she was getting thin too and can't deal with her own issues.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
