PinkDirt 5 Posted December 21, 2013 Hi everyone I just had the lab band put in yesterday! I'm doing great and I am pretty confused on the liquids and getting 80grams of Protein in today and tomorrow. I have a clear Protein Drink and I was told to only have 8 ounces at a time. Any suggestions of how to get the proper amount of Protein in these two days? Does anyone know how much Soup and Jello I can have at a time? I'm thinking I can mix some protein in with those... Thanks for your support 2 kll724 and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
Leepers 1,195 Posted December 21, 2013 Wow! That seems difficult. I was banded Wednesday, they did not put any Protein expectations on me. Just do your best and I'm sure you will be fine. 3 catfish87, 2muchfun and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
The Icy One 518 Posted December 21, 2013 I'm confused at that order. I was told to just do Clear Liquids for two days, not worry about Protein intake. I had hot tea, Water, Crystal Light, (brought up to room temp, of course) broth from canned Soup, sugar free Popsicles. It was only for two days, missing out on Protein for two days isn't a big dealio. I did six to eight ounces at a time, sipping very slowly. I had a hiatal hernia repair so I had a lot of inflammation, I was pretty tight, had nearly zero apatite and needed to go slow. Maybe you can start your protein when you transition to full liquids? Trying to force so. much. protein this soon, when you are on Clear Liquids, fresh out of the OR seems a bit extreme, to me. 3 2muchfun, kll724 and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

2muchfun 8,927 Posted December 21, 2013 Yeah, no big deal if you don't hit your daily nutrition goals this early in your journey. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
SandyM 1,956 Posted December 21, 2013 Agree with the above. Staying hydrated is your most important nutritional mission at this time. I couldn't have done a Protein shake if I had wanted to for the 1st 3 to 4 days post op. 2 ☠carolinagirl☠ and kll724 reacted to this
Changing2012 7 Posted December 21, 2013 @ pink dirt...congratulations! I was banded yesterday also, I wasn't told anything about getting enough Protein either. All I was told was to stay on Clear Liquids the 1st 2 days and after that I'll graduate to soft foods but to push liquids and take meds a prescribed. Good luck with recovery...I hope it's a speedy one! 1 kll724 reacted to this
kimk1999 450 Posted December 21, 2013 My doc had me on clear liquids just day 1, then full liquids for two weeks (protein shakes, broth, cream of Soups, etc). Im having a hard time getting to 60-80 grams that they specified too. The next two weeks is puréed foods. After that, then I can start solids foods but slowly. kll724 3,055 Posted December 22, 2013 I think Special K makes a Protein that you can add to Water. You just need to work on sipping. Try some beef or chicken broth, too! don't guzzle anything, it is hard to do 8 oz at a time! Best wishes. B-52 7,113 Posted December 22, 2013 It's not going to kill you if you don't get your Protein, Fiber, etc, for a few days.... We are given those instructions to adhere to in our lifetime.....because with WLS we eat so little food, we do not want to cut back what is essential.... But now? For a few days, even a week or more? No big deal....staying hydrated as well as possible is the key....but even for a day or two it's hard to get all our Water in at times.
