My lesson...

Today's temptation: Christmas gumdrops

What I thought I could do: eat a couple!

What I know I should do: run away!!

What did I do? Ate 3 big sugar covered gumdrops...chewed them into oblivion...thought I was SOO smart

Results: spent forever sitting on the toilet, nauseous, dizzy, sweating, and then straight to bed to pass out. Did I mention I am only 2 weeks out and still on liquids?

Boy did I learn a lesson...and my gumdrop passion has been cured for life. Makes me nauseous just thinking about them. Ugh

Heh...I get tempted by that stuff too Meltzy!!! I keep looking at this can of cashews that I bought for the family to snack on...And every time I see the can I'm drawn to it and ..I'm like...I could have just one....and chew it up really really well...then I slap myself and think of the possible after effects and walk away...This has happened like four times now in two days!! I did cave and buy myself some light eggnog for the holidays...I mean it is a liquid, and I'm on full liquids ;)

I had 2 small pieces of homemade almond roca last night and....enjoyed it. No issues. Must mean my sleeve and GI tract is quite ok with sugar.

I wish I got sick off sugar, but I don't indulge much anyway but I do have a piece of candy almost every day. No problems. I even had a cupcake just 4 weeks out didn't make me sick, but I realize then that I really dont care for sweets that much anymore. So now at 2 months out I rarely crave sweets.

I am going to take back my statement above about sugar not affecting me. My wife and I hosted a huge cookie decorating party today for extended family. There was a ton of sugary food (and non sugary food) from frosted Cookies to home made marsh mellows to homemade almond roca to home made candied pecans to gourmet chocolates to... Trying one thing led to another. I sampled it all. Oh I was so naughty ! :) anyways, I was not feeling good afterwards and went to lay down. I was sweating, very warm, heart was racing and I was overly lethargic. I promptly passed out and napped for a couple hours. When I woke up my whole body ached. I mean really ached deep in the muscles. I started drinking Water because I thought that might help due to a dehydration effect from the sugar (or some other anatomical process). It did. After about 45 minutes the aches are diminished. My body must not have liked that sugar rush at all (insulin response through the roof?) after eating fairly strict paleo for almost a year and not having any real sugar amounts from food since pre surgery (1.5 year ago). I don't think I will be doing that again nor will I eat much sugar again if I can help it. That did not feel pleasant at all. Definitely an overdose of sugar. Almost like the effects of drinking alcohol to excess and passing out. I have never done that, but I imagine the process would be about the same as sugar is a drug as alcohol is a drug to the body. Not meaning to derail others from enjoying their xmas parties. I just wanted to share what happened for me in case it helps someone.

I gave up sugar years ago when I went on Atkins. As a Type 2 diabetic, it was my way of staying off insulin. I HATED insulin, so it was a small sacrifice. How does someone who doesn't eat sugar end up needing WLS, you ask? By substituting other foods -- in massive quantities -- for sugar-laden items.

Since my sleeve, I have been flirting with the thought of eating "just a little" sugar. So, in typical addict style, I baked 5 different kinds of Cookies, brownies, 7 layer bars for friends and family. I tasted just a corner of a couple of the items, to make sure they were okay. I told myself that "a taste, does not a binge make." And a taste was all I needed. So far so good.

I also gave up wheat after my sleeve. bread was a big problem for me before my surgery, and now I no longer have a taste for it. But feeling deprived with all of the surrounding goodies, I thought I might make myself some sugar-free pumpkin bread for my holiday treat. Made with Splenda and organic whole wheat flour and it came out dreadfully dry. Baked the bread, I had about 2 slices and went to bed. The next day the feeling was "did anyone get the license plate of that truck that ran me over?" Had another couple of slices (just to prove the theory), then spent the next day in the bathroom. Blood sugar went sky high! That's why i felt like warmed-over death. sugar-free pumpkin Bread went in the trash, and I am back to eating things that make me feel good. So totally not worth it, except to prove to me that I really cannot eat sugar and flour AT ALL, even post sleeve. Lesson learned.

I don't have any issue with tolerating sugar, wheat, fat, or anything. Sleeve of steel, here. However, it does make me want to eat more of the same. I think it would be easier if it made me sick. On one hand I'm glad I can eat it if I want to to, but on the other hand, it's such a slippery slope that I'm a little envious of people who can't.

Too much sugar/sweets makes me extremely nauseous. I'm about 3 1/2 months out and I cannot tolerate sweets. My MIL made homemade eggnog this past weekend - I thought nothing of it and drank about 1/2 a cup...OMG it was awful. I finally took Zofran b/c the nausea was unbearable. Idk if my sleeve will always be like this or not but I need it to!!! Before surgery I had a HUGE sweet tooth! Not anymore, thankfully.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
