I had this very bad in the beginning too. Someone here said it was Kotisis or how ever you spell it. It does get better. I did use sugar free mints and that helped. I am 5.5 months out and it is not the norm now but in the beginning for me it was.

This is just me and not saying you should do this but I have chewed gum since week 2 post op and hasn't given me any gas. My dr never said I couldn't have it.

I also used sugar free mints for that nasty breath in the beginning. They never said we couldn't have sugar free gum, but I'm too scared of swallowing it by accident. Not sure what they would have to do if that happens and I do not want to find out!! LOL

I would image it is ketosis. I had the stinky pee too!! :)Sorry if tmi. But there's a few threads about it lol people said the Listerine taps helped a lot also. It will pass but while your in ketosis I would take full advantage while you can. Meaning walk a lot and if you are cleared to do more do it now. I was in for..... sheesh almost 2 months and I dropped the most weight then. :)

Yes it's ketosis, I had it too ( still do some days). My NUT said SF mints and SF gum was alright. Listerine breathe strips work too.

Use a tongue brush daily to get rid of all that gunk! It's been working for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
