Dealing with cravings

Since I am pre-op I can't answer this except make sure you are following the Dr.'s orders. Just because we feel ok with things doesn't mean they are ok for us to do. Please be safe. Glad you are doing so good so soon after.....

Thanks teacher ???? that is my concern too; I feel just fine, but I don't know what is going on internally.

I would not wait. Talk to your Dr now. Post op I was on liquid diet for 3 weeks, now 3 weeks puréed foods and then soft foods on my 7th week. You need time to heal your new pouch. I know from talking to a lot of people that Dr instructions can vary, but check ASAP.

Evening everyone! I am a week post op. I have felt good enough to try eating some soft solid foods, ie; noodles, thinned mashed potatoes, hummus, things of that nature. My husband is very uneasy of this and I think if my body wasn't ready for it, there would have been serious repercussions after eating. Is this going to harm me or interfere with healing? I promised him I would ask the Dr when I get my staples removed. Was curious on y'alls thoughts. Thanks!!

Always follow what your doctor outlined before surgery. If you are supposed to still be on liquids then you should not be eating solids yet. Remember your pouch is still healing and will not alert you when you are overfilling your pouch.

I tried to eat eggs the week after surgery and got very ill and threw up for about ten minutes. So please be careful.

Hi Im 4 years out..remember that you life is bout to change, in fact you are about to changed it. I had to have an epiphany that I can not cling to my old ways not even a little. Change is scary and hard. Sugar was my complete and absolute addiction. After surgery I had to resolve myself that I could NOT tweek or trick my food and brain into thinking a certain product or sugary health gimmick would satisfy my sugar buds. With this surgery my food life had to change. I and I alone had make the decisions that if I was to succeed I had to retrain my brain. In the beginning is was a power struggle between me & my pouch..pouch won I gave in and found a way to become friends with it and give it foods IT needed and wanted to make my life happy and functional. Food starts out the enemy, but as the journey goes forward so will you, you will gain unbelievable knowledge you and your choices...

Zakura???...the surgery guild lines are there because they work, and your new stomach needs time to heal and get ready for this new journey with you, you are its leader, its you who has to feed it, nurture it, and give it good health. Think of it as its own entity and its you who have to guide it threw its infancy and into a healthy lifestyle..thanx for listening :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
