Hi all! So I got home about 1 hour after surgery and have been so uncomfortable. My Dr said I had a Hernia so he had to fix thAt. Is that the reason the sensitive abdominal pain? I also feel this pressure in my chest area especially when i try to lie down. I get up constantly to walk around because its so uncomfortable... I know it will be worth it at the end!! Staying super strong..

Congratulations on getting the band, and welcome to this awesome site. I was banded on the 22 of November. So I'm still kinda recovering. I too had a hiatal hernia and my surgeon fixed it as well. Although my pain from that was just below the chest. That horrible pain in your chest is gas from the anesthesia. I had my pain in my shoulder and it was the worse pain. Yea you gotta keep walking around that's the only thing that will relieve the pain. Try the dissolvable gas-x strips. Those helped me a lot. It will get better, believe me. I didn't think it would go away. That's the right attitude, stay super strong. Good luck.

here are the things you can try. walk of course. even if it's just around the room. pretty soon you will be walking around the house and continue upwards from there....heating pad to the shoulder. ice pack to the incisions, warm drinks. and take pain med's. your discomfort will pass. but it may take a few weeks. drink plenty of fluids. no carbonation. rest as needed. lay on your left side sometimes will help pass the gas as well. best wishes and hoping for a speedy recovery

Congrats! And yes, walking is the best thing for your. Maybe sit in a lounge type chair, and relax! Take pain meds as needed, but don't over do! When drinking, remember to only sip, this is the healing time, so don't overdo anything! Best wishes, Merry Christmas, happy New Year. Enjoy your new life! Karen...aka..kll724

Hope you're feeling better today. Yes as the others have stated do all the above. Most important seems to be walking. My pain was mostly in the left shoulder so heating pad there and ice pack on the belly. Sipping hot fluids also tends to help. Gas-x is great but I am not sure if it actually helped or not, definitely didn't hurt. Pain meds when you can. Also after a few days with no BM, I finally started taking Milk of magnesia to help things move along.

Good luck and congratulations!!

My fiancé did a fast n sharp hard tapping to my back and shoulders. This immediately released the gas! It was amazing. I only had gas pains for 24 hours.

I was banded on the 19th and still having major issues with gas, I've had several BM's but very little gas so aggravating and painful! Definitely going to get me gas x strips, I've tried everything else!

Think I'm going to get my hubby to gets those hands busy on my back too! At this point Ill try anything! Good luck to you, and I hope it all eases up! Nothing worse than hurting when you are trying to improve your quality of health!

Be prepared! He also nicknamed me "The Jetstream" after the gas was releasing! Oh my! That's all I'm gonna say! But seriously, the rapid hard tapping worked immediately!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
