Hi , I'm new to the board, and wondering if anyone has Dr. Dyer from Nashville as their surgeon. I have many questions as I am waiting to get banded. I've read a lot about pre op diets and it sounds like different Dr's do different things. What is the average time to wait to get a fill after surgery?

Thanks LauraG.

Hi Laura, and welcome to LBT! I don't have the doctor you were asking about, sorry. As far as your first fill, it depends on you and how you are feeling. Most doctors require you wait at least 4 weeks. I think the average is about 4-6 weeks. Just remember that even after you get your first fill, you may not be at proper restriction yet. It sometimes takes 2-3 fills before you get there.

I had to wait 6-8 weeks after surgery. They want to be sure you have healed completely, and allowed the original swelling to go down before inflicting the pressure of the fill.

I had my first fill at 7 weeks, then another 1 month later---and that got me to a good point of restriction.

Welcome to LBT---we are glad to have you here!

Hey Laura!

Glad you found this site! I find this forum to be priceless.

One of my things that I wonder about (since we both go to the same chiroprator) is how long I will have to wait for a REAL adjustment. Diaz does mine on the drop table with me laying on my belly and I just don't see that happening with my port site any time soon:confused:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
