Trans nasal Endoscopy

Recommended Posts

Looking for anyone that has had a trans nasal endoscopy. I have mine scheduled in a couple weeks. Getting nervous.

I've had one in the past. Surprisingly not terrible. They numb your nasal passages so it doesn't hurt and you don't gag either. It's one heck of an odd sensation, but maybe better for people who don't like getting knocked out frequently.

Oh I gagged it was terrible -- don't think I was numbed enough and that spray was grooooooos!! Didn't want to be knocked out for such a quick procedure

I guess I was lucky. They put me under for my endoscopy. I thought it was such a great feeling fading out and then waking up to it being all done. I never have been under anesthesia before then.

This thread has been a fine example of how no two people are the same. I wish you luck and if you're super nervous, perhaps ask to be knocked out?

Let us know how you did!

Thanks Harlem! I will just knock the doctor out if it hurts lol lol!! Sounds like it is just plain uncomfortable! I want to watch the procedure and they said I can if I am awake. This stuff fascinates me, weird I guess lol!

-- if you search YouTube you might find a clip that demonstrates the procedure

I felt bad during mine cause I slightly pushed the docs hand away -- don't think he was happy about that either but it felt as if he were forcing it down too fast (which I'm sure he wasn't) and I was violently gagging thinking I was choking... It's a really short procedure and maybe you can ask the nurse of you can hold or lightly squeeze his hand to help ease the discomfort ... That helped me tremendously during the last few seconds of it (the nurse offered after I pushed the docs hand away, obviously I couldn't speak at that point)

Had my Trans nasal Endoscopy this morning! It really went well! I made sure I was good and numb, thank you Sandi!! It was a strange feeling but tolerable for the few minutes it took. I am glad I went with the non anesthesia !

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
