Trying to find balance

Recommended Posts

I started the purée diet this week. I'm finding it hard to fit all my liquids in once I added real food. I'm full for like 3 hours and can't even begin to think about putting anything else in my stomach. I'm eating about 2-3oz per meal and have been eating 1-2 times per day. Maybe I just need to plan each meal better and or take eat less per meal so that I can get enough liquids. I just hoped to start getting my Protein from food sources and rely less on the shakes. Any suggestions would be helpful.

At first it's just a very delicate, full-time coordination dance. Eat, then drink, then eat again, and it keeps on. I used a timer to tell me when to eat, and I think I ate at 8, 11, 2 and 6 or something at first. An hour after I ate, a timer went off and I started drinking.

I'm four months out though and many days I still need to get 2 shakes to get all my Protein in because I too can't yet hold that much. I know that once my sleeve relaxes, I will be wishing for the days I couldn't get that much in so I try to enjoy it :)

I'd say if in doubt, get your Water in first. Dehydration is no fun but being a few gms short on Protein won't kill you as fast as the dehydration will.

keep at it and just know it gets easier.

Thanks gamegirl. I'm really trying to plan my meals a lot better. I know it's all a matter of time and getting used to doing things a new way.

I stopped the shakes when I went to purée too but I have put them back in because they are easy. I'm 7 months out and have one a day. It has 17 grams of Protein. I'm in Australia so don't have as many choices so I use Optifast.

You may not hit your Protein goals while on purée. Cottage cheese is full of protein and was a go-to for me.

Thanks mistysj. I have added at least one Protein Shake per day because I won't meet my Protein goals without it. I'm also adding unflavored protein to some of the food. I'm not much in cottage cheese or at least I wasn't a long time ago. Maybe I can give that a try.

Try the protein puddings I posted. Super easy, a yummy treat and have 17 gms of protein. You'll get there :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
