Better restriction with NO fill??

Recommended Posts

Some of you may remember my first fill misery post the other day, where they put in 1.2cc, removed .3cc, and then removed it all.

Since that happened, I have not PBd one time. I'm eating about 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup per meal, and yet I've lost 2.5 lbs. since Thursday. I don't feel as tight (obviously) as I did before the fill, and I'm not having the ravenous hunger I was having before either.

The PA who did the fill told me that they did (despite my being told otherwise) give me a .5cc fill when they installed the band. She said it was necessary to do in order to install the band.

Am I completely insane, or is it possible that the .5cc they initially put in was too much?

I would wonder about swelling being your issue. Some people swell intensley! It is enough to provide plenty of restriction for quite some time for some bandsters.

If it is working for you the way it is now---ride it out! I would never suggest a fill unless ALL indicators say it is time. I had my 2nd fill, over 7 months ago---and am still not ready for more. and my last fill was .50cc. Enough to make a difference, yes!

Good Luck, hope all continues to go well for you!!!

Kat

When I had the fill/unfill, they had scheduled me for April 18 for my next attempt, but told me I could come in at 2 wks if I needed to. I think I'll just see how the loss goes over the next couple of weeks, and evaluate it then.

You may have a point, Kat, about the swelling, and I know I had some swelling after the fill/unfill, so maybe that's doing it. All I know is that it's sure nice not doing that PB thing all the time! In fact, I had spaghetti for dinner last night, and it was wonderful to eat it. I was careful to take small bites and chew really well, but I think I wouldn't have been able to tackle it before!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
