My nutritionist told me yesterday it is better to spread it out during the day because your body can process it better!

Same as Bronco0605, my nutritionist told me you should spread out the protien intake throughout the day, for more efficient absorption.

Is it even possible to take in 80 grams of Protein all at once? I have no idea? I'm asking too......

My NUT was even more vocal. She told me that anything more than 20-25 grams in a serving was "a waste" and my body wouldn't process it. Well, I've never been one for superlatives so I decided to research it.

I didn't keep the links, but a quick Google search led me to a number of sites that discussed the fact that this was outdated thinking based on extrapolated information. In order to process Protein, your small intestine uses enzymes (biology's version of a catalyst). Once all your enzymes are busy processing, no more Protein is getting processed. The 20-25 gram rule is based on your body being able to process 7-12 grams an hour. But it turns out your body is smarter than we are. In response, your small intestine will absorb a significant amount of the protein for its own use and for later processing and it will also slow down the rate at which the protein is passing through (but it can still let other non-protein molecules past). I'd really like to hear if anyone else has heard anything similar.

Personally, I make a double shot Protein shake every work day around 10:30-11 am (50 grams). However, I'm 3 months out, so it takes me 4 hours to drink it all!

The only way I would know would be to take a couple of those New Whey Liquid Protein shots...those are about 42g's of Protein at a time, and they're less than 4oz. each. I don't suggest it, but that's how it could be done.

I use the New whey shots if I'm behind on Protein and want to catch up. They're only 4oz's with a whopping 42 grams of Protein. They taste like sh.t and are VERY filling, so I can't imagine getting two down in one go.

My nutritionist says your body can only absorb around 32-34 grams of Protein at once, so eating/drinking more than that isn't necessary.

Just as Familyguy mentioned, they all aren't the greatest tasting, but they are effective at getting in the Protein. They make them in different flavors, and some ARE better than others. If you have a GNC in your area, they usually sell them. I tried each flavor, and rated them...the Orange and the Blueberry I thought were pretty bad, and the rest certainly tolerable!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
