Does anyone know if everyone gets bad scar tissue with the band? I've had mine since Sept 2012 and been deflated since Oct 2013 due to constant vomiting and poor weight loss. Having the revision at the end of January 2014 but am worried reading about all the people who couldn't have it done in 1 surgery.

I had my band since July, 2005 and had a lot of scar tissue. My surgeon still removed the band and the scar tissue and sleeved me during the same surgery (December 12). I think it depends on your surgeon. I think most people I see here do have at least some scar tissue. I'm 7 days out and feeling better every day.

I had my band in July 2007 and had it removed in October of this year. My band was removed and the sleeve performed in one procedure. The total time for everything was at 2 hours. I did not have a lot of scar tissue from my band. That was my biggest fear going in for surgery, is that they would be unable to perform the sleeve at the same time due to the amount of scar tissue. Unfortunately, there is no way to know in advance how much scar tissue is present until you are in the operating room and the cameras have been placed inside of you.

My doctor told me he is able to perform 90% of his band to sleeve revisions in one procedure.

Good luck and please keep us posted after your surgery.

I had scar tissue from band removal to sleeve during same day surgery. He cleaned the scar tissue with no issues.

I had a larger scar from my lapband after my revision I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that the doctor removed my 1wide scar to a minimal line scar. Doing the Happy Dance!

I assume you are talking about scar tissue on the stomach itself.

I had a band for 10 years and I had ALOT of scar tissue. I had the band removed 2.5 months before my sleeve surgery. When they removed the band, they scraped alot of that scar tissue away. The danger - as I understand it - with the scar tissue is that it might alter the shape/size they can realistically create for your new tummy and also that there is an uptick on leak and other complications risk for revisions. My advice - go to a trusted surgeon who has a good track record with REVISIONS. I suspect that the reason some revisionistas don't lose as well as "virgin" sleevers is because the surgeons are working with a scarred up tummy and must modify the approach. Not sure there is evidence to back my theory....

Skin scars - they recycled my old lapband ones for the most part so I didn't wind up too much worse off. I wasnt in the running for vicotoria secret model anyway... so it is fine.

Yes, I was talking about the exterior of my stomach scar. My lapband was in '09 and the interior of my stomach had scarring but I had all the scar tissue removed and sleeve done in one surgery. The doctor said it took 1 1/2 hours for both the removal and revision. I am so Thankful that i could have it all done at once. I did my best on my pre-op fasting diet too to shrink my liver too. Alot of prayer went into this and i was truly thankful for my new sleeve!

Has anyone heard if using a larger staple size for revisions? I was concerned about scar tissue and my surgeon said he may use a larger staple to get through it?
