still going slow

Recommended Posts

Hi, i have not visited this web site since January, I am still disappointed with my slow progress. I was banded on 28th Nov 2006 weighing in at 108 kgs, i have only lost 14kgs now weighing 94kgs. I lost 6kgs in the 1st 2 weeks so it has taken me the rest of the time to only lose 8kgs. I dont seem to have much resistance on my band as i am always hungry and i seem to be able to eat a decent size meal. The only problem i have is i get a lot of food getting stuck which means that most days i am pbing. I am not sure whether this is because i am eating too much or whether i am not chewing my food enough as once i have bought up whatever was stuck i have no problem eating more.I am due to have another fill next week so i am hoping that will give me a bit more restriction. I have a 6mm band and have 3.5mm fill in it. I would like to know when i have my next adjustment and start to feel restriction does that mean my food will not go down into my stomach but will sit in the pouch creating a full feeling so i will not eat as much, or will food still get stuck. please help if u can answer my questions. Thanks Kaye:think

Hi Kaye, Well done on losing 14 kgs. Like Jack said, at least you didn't put that weight on. Remember losing weight with the band is a slow and steady proposition. Slow weight loss is sustainable weight loss. Also I have found regular exercise really helps your weight loss. If you have this in place most days it will really help to move your weight loss along.

Go back to your surgeon and sort out the fill situation also.

I wish you lots of success with it Kaye. Let us know how you get on. Why dont you also join us on the Melbourne chat thread. We all support each other on our journey with the band. Your welcome to join in.

Susannah

hi kaye please don't get discouraged everyone journey is different you are doing well, for myself it has been an incredibly long time 2 years this july and 16 kilos down my last fill has done it have best restriction ever and at last got my head into gear being one of the older bandsters i must be like the proverbial teaching the old dog new tricks but i don't care how long it takes me i NEVERwould have lost it without the band just got heavier and heavier i reckon. so keep happy slow and steady wins the race, hopefully when we have another catch up for coffee we can meet...:)jenny

Hi my weight loss has been slow also. I have had my band for 2years and 3 months. It has taken me that long to loose 51 kilos. Don't be discouraged. Any weight loss is good.

just want to thank everyone who responded to my questions, they all made a lot of sense. My weight loss journey is slow, but i know the weight didn't go on overnight so i'm not going to lose it overnight. Ihave now lost 19kilos and am feeling a lot happier. It is great being able to go into shops and find MODERN clothes that fit. I am now down to 89kilos so am half way there. If i only lose another 10kilos i will be happy with that, (slow and easy wins the race)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
