I am about 2.5 weeks out from VSG and the first week I lost 9 lbs and I have only lost 2 more lbs. I'm starting to think that this isn't going to work for me. I lost so much weight with the band right away and with the VSG nothing is really happening! Anyone been there ? Ugh feeling defeated.

Cris

A stall between weeks 2 and 4 is completely normal and common. Search the forums for "three week stall" if you want to see that just about everyone suffers along with you. Just keep following your program and the weight loss will pick up again.

Bufflehead speaks the truth. I am entering my 10th week and I've been stalled almost half the time. It just seems it's the way it works.

The key is to look at the positive. You are loosing and not gaining weight. I have been in the same situation and am currently 29 weeks post sleeve (tomorrow). My weight loss has slowed to about 1 lb a week for the past 2 months. I have tried several different things (less calories, more calories, more Water, more Protein, more exercise) but the weight just doesn't seem to budge. I will loose 2 lbs in one day then gain 1 lb the next day. I have tried not checking my weight daily (sometimes AM and PM when I am obsessing about weight. The only thing this does is cause me more stress and that in turn slows weight loss. So.... I chant to myself that I am loosing weight slowly so the weight will stay off. When I am tempted (friends never understand the sabotage they offer to my goal at this time of year with all the goodies they bake) I tell myself that by sticking to my goals now, I will enjoy the holidays next year in a smaller body.

Hang in there (what else can you do...have them put back the excised stomach?!?)

I agree it's normal. I went through it as well. But I'd call your Nut for assistance as well.

Congrats on your surgery.

Also do yourself a big favor and weigh yourself once a week! You'll go crazy and become obsessed if you weigh every day!

I only weigh myself once a month. Helps me to not see the stalls and just notice a downward trend. Doesn't seem like many people use this approach though, perhaps the curiosity is too great but I just don't want to obsess.

I am with you. I weigh myself once a month and no more cos I hate disappointments. Even though the scale makes the decision not move for a month or two, it's still okay as long as it's not moving up.

That's a good idea... I might switch to once a month now, on the 12th of each month, since my surgery was April 12th

I was sleeved on dec 9th & stopped loosing weight 5 days ago. So I only lost the 1st week now I'm the same weight. Up a pound down a pound. Wtf?? Any advice?? Could this be from not enough Water? ?

Your body just needs time to catch up. Be patient. I also found taking my measurements once a month helps... It's nice to see those numbers go down.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
