Has anyone noticed excess mucus/phlegm during Pre Opt diet?

Recommended Posts

Two weeks ago around Thursday, i caught a bug from one of my students. Sore throat, fever, chills, coughing so much i could barely sleep at night. It was awful. I started to feel better and by Tuesday i was Still coughing a bit but nothing like before.

I started my liquid diet the following Saturday (so 1 week after i caught the bug) and i found that while i don't feel sick anymore(no fever, body ache, sore throat, etc), I'm still coughing up A LOT of mucus, especially in the morning. last night i woke up around midnight and had a bad coughing spell that lasted sbout 10 minutes. Each cough brings up mucus. It's disgusting to have productive coughs b/c i keep having to spit.

I don't know if I'm sick or if this is a weird side effect of the diet. I can't call my nutritionist until about 3 today because of how my work schedule is, so i thought i'd ask here. My mom suggested that maybe my body is removing impurities of excess mucus that's in my system sincenwhen i got a colon cleanse a few months ago i was told there's a lot of mucus in my stool (the woman who did it said i should stop drinking milk, but i didnt. Lol)

I dunno what to think.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
