As of today, I am one week post-op. Overall, recovery has been pretty easy and uneventful. I am down almost 20 lbs since surgery, walking at least 1/2 mile each day, and am getting over 80oz. of Fluid daily. I have the occasional "cramp" in my gut, but they usually subside pretty quickly. The Fluid and Protein shakes go down without issue and I can pretty much take normal sized drinks, instead of sipping. All that said, I went to a Center of Excellence program & surgeon. They are VERY conservative with the pre-op and post-op process. The one thing that is frustrating me is that I REALLY want to move to pureed food. I know every surgeon is different, but mine does not allow me to move off of liquids until 14 days post op. I can make it without an issue, but I am considering calling my nutritionist to see if they will give me permission to advance a little early. Anyone else run into a situation like mine?

There is no harm in asking, but be prepared to get the answer you're not going to like..."No, you can't move to puree sooner than 14 days."

I'm not a fan of going against doctor's orders - they have them for a reason, even if we don't like them and another person was able to eat foods sooner.

I was able to eat 2 tablespoons of food per day from the beginning. I can tell you that even if you were able to move to pureed foods, you won't be able to eat much and that little bit of food is going to take you about 30 minutes to finish. It loses its luster very quickly - a lot of times I would stop eating because I simply lost interest in that food that 15 minutes prior looked like a feast.

Make sure you take care of your new tiny tummy - it's still healing. It sounds like you're doing great with your fluids! That's awesome.

Best of luck to you!

I know it's hard to stay on liquids :( my doctor had me on two weeks full liquids. Really in that first couple of weeks your stomach is still swollen and numb. So it's a very safe thing to do, staying on liquids. That being said when the third week came around I was a chicken, watery instant mash potato and gravy blending fool! :P

I too went to a Center for Excellence and my surgeon/NUT is conservative. Day 17 (tomorrow), I get to advance to the "creamy" stage...tired if shakes (I use unjury), and really want something more. Feeling great, walking and getting around terrific! -20 since I've begun this journey. No pre-op diet required.

I'm two weeks out yesterday and just saw my surgeon today. I've been great -- zero problems taking in 65-95g Protein per day and all my Water from the very start. No complications, and no need to sip. I was hoping he's let me go on and advance to purees today, but no. My center requires three weeks of full liquids, then nine weeks of purees and soft foods. Shaking up my Premier Protein for dinner now...

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
