I had my surgery on Monday. I felt my best the day of the surgery. Yesterday and so far today have been pretty awful. I hope I don't regret this decision bc it's done. I can barely even sip Water. When I sip anything, I get horrible belly gas. It rips through me and is extremely painful. I can't lie down. I am sleeping in a chair in my living room. How fast will I feel better bc right now all I want to do is to scream and cry! And I'm not a baby. I take pain pretty well, but this is awful. The thought of not eating much, ok, but the thought of water hurting going down is really scaring me.

I too slept on a reclining chair in the living room for about 3.5 weeks. I was so soar and in a lot of pain. I too can usually handle pain and was amazed how bad it was for me. It seems like everyone is different. I had to be on pain meds for at least 2 weeks. Then I moved on to just Tylenol. Drinking Water not as bad for me as you are going through. I know getting dehydrated is a big problem so keep sipping. Call your doc and nut but if you read on this website this is so common with a lot of people just sleeved. You are swollen and it takes time to heal but Water is so important.

The gas will subside it just takes time. Keep walking as much as you can. It really does help with the Gas. Hope you are feeling better soon. Once you are further out you will look back at this time like it was nothing because your clothes will be falling off.

Have you tried crystal light in your Water? Or G2 ? Powerade zero? Anything sugarfree that will help you get some Fluid in. Also try warm or cold to see if one temperature is more tolerable. I had a really hard time at first too! I almost had to go back to the hospital for fuids . Try Decaf tea, broth diluted juice what ever it takes . You can do it. I was miserable for the first week then it slowly got better.

I also have had issues and more pain than I thought I would have. Normally I breeze through things and pain. Everyone compared this surgery to my gallbladder surgery I breezed through that and was back at work 2 days later. This one the gas I can tell you is awful. The nurse at my hospital said to try and put a washcloth in a ziplock bag wet it (the washrag) and put it in the microwave till it heats up an creates steam. She said to rub it on shoulders etc and it would help to get rid of the gas. Hope this helps you and hope you feel better. They say once we hit the 2 week mark we will have smooth sailing. :)

I'm having problems with vomiting and pain. As soon as Water or anything hit tongue, vomiting starts. Was like this all day yesterday. Hoping for better day today. Got in 30 ml Jello this morning. Almost time to start water again. Determined to try

Surgery was Monday. Today was MUCH better! I guess I'm finally healing bc I could actually drink Water and eat beef broth without being sick. My one side is still very sore, but it will heal. I've had so many emotions going through my mind. I'm not physically hungry, but my mind thinks of food a lot. This sounds dramatic, but I feel like this surgery is almost a funeral for food. Will I ever truly enjoy food again?

I would try gasx. That has been my saving grace. It will help with the bubbles. Good luck!

Yes, you will. I have many coworkers and friends who have had this surgery. It takes time, but they all say they eat pretty normally. Just smaller portions. One exception is a coworker/friend who can't tolerate soft white bread. Toasted or multigrain is fine. The doughy just isn't digestible for her.

Have you called your surgeon's office? I know we are all different, but seems maybe some help from them might be needed. My surgeon said if you can't get fluids in for one day due to pain or nausea, call. I'd say that's a pretty good rule to follow. Hope you have great improvement quickly.

Using a hot pad on your abdomin will also help with the pressure. I'm 6 weeks out and still can't drink plain Water. I add mio or SF Hawaiian punch flavoring to mine. I also got the sf Popsicles and they were a lifesaver.

I was going to call next day but have been much improved! I sometimes have nausea issues after anesthesia and so wondering if it was all. I've been getting most of my liquids in, walking, and even got out of the hours yesterday! Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
