2 weeks post op- still in pain

Recommended Posts

I had my lap band surgery on 12/4 so I am 2 weeks post op tomorrow. I am still in so much pain. Gas didn't bother me at all but the abdominal pain is a killer. It's a sharp pain that feels like pulling/burning every time i stand up. I still can't sleep on my stomach and can't roll over in bed. I know a lot of people have a pulling feeling from their port but my ports on the right side. I've had surgery before and I jut can't believe that I'm still in pain after two weeks. How long did you have pain for?

What does your surgeon say??

By two weeks I was already back to normal, if I could remember correctly.

You are healing! are you doing too much, possibly too little! If you are not walking, or moving at all, you need to do it! But, if you are vacuuming, carrying heavy things, then you are doing too much. sleeping on the side will eventually come, try using a pillow. Best wishes, Karen..aka...kll724

its major surgery, so there is going to be pain...as karen said, we are healing. HOWEVER, if you are in pain, or concerned and it seems you are, please call your doctor and let them know and advise you to be safe.

hang in there.

The worst part for me was the gas pain in my shoulders. But by day 5 I was back to normal doing light cleaning around the house. But everyone is different. I had my gallbladder taken out 2 weeks ago and I took 1 pain pill post op, and never had any pain at all. But everyone is different, I'd call your doctor if you're in that much pain still. Everyday you should at least see small amounts of improvement, especially 2 weeks out. Best wishes :)

Thanks for all the replies! I guess I'm still healing and everyone's different. My 2 week post op appointment is tomorrow so I'll see what the surgeon says. I guess I was just shocked at how long it's taking because when I got my appendix out I was fine in 5 days and this is taking much longer. I do walk around a lot and even went to the store with my mom but still in pain. I appreciate all of your help! I'll update when I get back from appointment tomorrow

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
