hifromsara2000 2 Posted January 14, 2014 (edited) Hello! I just joined this site today, and am still trying to learn how to use it. I had my (gastric bypass) surgery Dec. 9, 2013. So far I have had very few problems. Recently, I started having some pain on my right side. Anyone else experience this? It is almost like a side ache, but not too over powering. My biggest post-op struggles have been waiting 30 minutes before and after eating to drink anything, and getting in all my Protein. I am also discovering that while my body is physically limited (by the surgery) my mind is the same as it has always been; thus, I am dealing with the same cravings and desires (to overeat, eat out of boredom, and emotional eating) that got me obese in the first place. I have been looking for books to read that deal with some of the emotional baggage I am still toting when it comes to eating. I just recently got the clearance to exercise, and I am considering joining my local YMCA. I have read (and heard) about people who have weight loss surgery and then gain their weight back after some time. For me, I have allowed these stories to put a tremendous amount of pressure on my success…pressure I really don't need. Well, that is sufficient for my introduction. I look forward to getting to know you all better! Thanks for listening to me ramble!Sara Edited January 14, 2014 by hifromsara2000 1 chellee1971 reacted to this

I am not sure about the right side pain, maybe someone will chime in with some ideas. As far as the rest, I think what you are describing is a battle we must all fight. I know a lot of people are looking for new hobbies and things to do with the time they used to spend eating. And having a plan in mind for how you will deal with cravings and head hunger is a very good idea. I found a book called "Eat It Up" by Connie Stapleton, PHD. It goes into specific detail about how to prevent weight regain and the things that will help you deal. Hope I helped a little! And again, welcome!

I'm still pre-op but always willing to listen and help with anything I may have heard or know. As for the pain in the right side, be very careful and get that checked very soon! That could be the appendix! My brother had what he described as a mild achy ness in his and his appendix were going bad fast! His burst before they got him to surgery. Please just be careful! That scarred me for life! Lol
jessiej1979 24 Posted January 14, 2014 Amy I don't drink coffee but a diet dr pepper sure woul be great! I don't remember what is the reason why we can't have caffeine? Caffeine also is a stimulant. Perhaps a stimulant isn't what our new bellies need right away. That's my guess.
redstacey 33 Posted January 14, 2014 Yes the caffeine acts as a stimulate and could make you hungry. Also in the early part of your healing it could irritate your new pouch. Also they say caffeine acts as a diuretic. So we don't want to get dehydrated when we are already having trouble getting our fluids in. I will admit that I am a diet coke aholic. Lol. And I do allow myself one a day. 1 terry1118 reacted to this
redstacey 33 Posted January 14, 2014 My thing is eating. I'm not hungry so I don't eat. I know this is bad. I have to try to fix this problem. It's my old thought process of if you are not hungry then don't take in extra calories that you don't need. But some days I can go all day without eating. jessiej1979 24 Posted January 14, 2014 I am so ready for Thursday. I keep seeing commercials for Ruby Tuesdays and pizza Hut and I realize I truly have a addiction to food. I really hope my strong desire for fattening artery clogging food dissipates.
