dactyl 0 Posted April 1, 2007 I am also considering this doctor but I would like to have more info on his credentials. I'm looking into having it in May. Good Luck!
sunseeker37 0 Posted April 1, 2007 I did a lot of research and read a lot of posts on these boards before deciding which doctor to go with in Mexico. Ultimately, I was looking for the best surgeon I could get for the best price. After reviewing all of the doctors, it seems that Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Kuri have the best reputations, credentials and the least amount of complications. I finally settled on Dr. Kuri because he has a web special price right now of $7500 vs. Dr. Ortiz who is charging $8500. My second choice was Dr. Huacuz who charges $7000 but his package only includes two days in hospital whereas Dr. Kuri's package includes two days in hospital and two days in a hotel. In case something goes wrong I liked the comfort of being close to the doctor for the longer period of time. Plus, Dr. Kuri normally charges $8950 so I thought his special price gave me access to an excellent surgeon at a reasonable price. Dr. Allessandrini and the Banajor Obesity Centre didn't even make my short list based on my research and the reviews that I have read.

isabelle290 0 Posted April 3, 2007 I am considering surgery in Mexico if I don't get approval from my ins. Do you know if the doctors there will correct problems if something goes wrong? I was just a little stressed about that and then having to worry about finding a DR. to fill the band when I return home. Any insight?

dragonfly-wings 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Great - tell me what to expect - I land in TJ and they pick me up - my identical twin and a dear friend is going with me - we are staying 2 extra days. Will I feel like walking around a little and shopping for Sterling Silver or even going to look at the beach? Are we near the beach? Is the shopping good? Did you have a lot of pain? I love Dr. Carlos so far - he responds to my questions quickly - and seems genuine. I am so excited - I feel like a soda bottle that someone has shaken and can't wait to have the lid opened so I can spew everywhere.

babylovestoys 1 Posted April 5, 2007 ISABELLE290, Dr. Huacuz in TJ did my surgery. While I was there another nurse had surgery at the same time. She had complications due to a hernia repair. She was sick vomiting all night and tore her sutures holding the band and damaging her hernia repair. Dr. huacuz did her surgery over again the next day and repaired the hernia as well as placed a new band and did not charge her a cent. If you want to know more, please email me a private message and I will be as honest about my experience as I possibly can.
tammydam 0 Posted April 5, 2007 was this at banjanor obiesity center in tj?
catzintj 1 Posted April 9, 2007 DR HUACUZ fixed hernias on two of my friends who had the lapband put in by him. he did not charge more and he was so kind to go out of his way and help them feel better. i wonder why so many people have hernias, i never thought to ask. but i read about it a lot. I go to dr. huacuz for all my major health care. i like him better and i trust him way more than the doctors here. doctors here in the US just dont have time for us. they are just one part of a big process. dr huacuz does everything. He even goes to the hotel with you and checks to see how you are . I wish i had doctors here like that.
NataliesMommy 1 Posted April 17, 2007 I am considering surgery in Mexico if I don't get approval from my ins. Do you know if the doctors there will correct problems if something goes wrong? I was just a little stressed about that and then having to worry about finding a DR. to fill the band when I return home. Any insight? It depends on the doctor. I experienced the dark side. I was banded in TJ, and when I started having serious complications the medical group I used was anything but helpful. (And that's putting it nicely.) From there, I attempted getting in w/ an American doctor and was unable to because I didn't have medical records from Mexico. (They told me my medical records had already been destroyed - this is less than a month after my surgery) So...just make sure you do TONS of research on the doctors. Talk to patients that have and haven't had complications. There are tons of posts on this site alone about complaints or praises from docs across the borders. And most importantly, set up your follow up care w/ an American physician before your surgery. Let them know exactly what your plans are, and what information they'll need from the Mexican surgeon.
