The scale is adding unnecessary stress! Work on diet and exercise.....the weight will take care of itself!

Howdy Ms. Curvy! I'm doing pretty good. How are you? Remind me where you are in the sleeve process?

March 19th is my big day. I am so ready yet scared at the same time. Worried about pain after, not waking up from surgery, loose skin down to my ankles I'm all over the place with my thinking. One thing for sure I'm facing my fears and standing by my choice to do this for overall better health. So many family members are unsupportive but I'm not phased. My older sister says if you stuck with these changes you've been making then you will lose weight. Ok yes that's true but I've been unsuccessful keeping it off. I finally had to say this decision is strictly about me and me feeling comfy in my own skin even though you guys don't agree with my decision and even though a few of you should look into having a weight loss intervention yourselves I'm asking you to respect this is my choice to make.

WELP!!!! I guess you told them!!!! LOL!!!! Seriously, though, I had to do the same. I had to tell people that I wasn't looking for personal opinions or judgement, only support. I've made this decision and nothing you say will change my mind! My best suggestion is to find 1 or 2 supportive people and leave it at that. A very few from my family knows. In terms of the pain, though I know everyone is different, I can honestly say that my incisions NEVER hurt. The pain I had was my swollen tummy and my chest. I had severe nausea and dry heaving. Surgery was Wednesday, I was home on Thursday, at the grocery store on Saturday, church on Sunday, teleworked for a week and back to work the following week. I started back to Zumba right away, per drs orders. I just went at my own pace and didn't overdo it. I am noticing some loose skin but I'll take the battle scars!!! You'll do great!!!!

Lainey sometimes you have to put love ones in their place and I felt it was time. I found myself constantly defending my personal choice of what I felt was best for me because last time I checked it was my knees hurting from toting around all this extra weight or being winded taking the stairs at work. I plan to telework the second week and be completely off the first week.

Hey there Lainey I see you've hit the one month mark. How are you feeling physically? I know it's still early but have you jumped on the scale yet or are you noticing looser fitting clothes?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
