MLO Super High Protein powder - Not intended for weight loss?

Recommended Posts

So I was at the grocery store today, and came across this unflavored Protein Powder for $11. I grabbed it without thinking, because all the other ones I'd seen were twice that expensive.

And it SOUNDED good - 24g of Protein, no carbs, 110 calories, some Vitamins added in, so I'm thinking maybe I found a powder that would work for me to stir into Soups and whatnot. But then on the back, I read that it says it's "not intended for weight loss." Does anyone know why this would be? This is the first time I've bought Protein Powder (I had my surgery three weeks ago), so do they all say that as some sort of catch-all warning? I'm looking at the ingredients and I really can't figure out why it wouldn't be suitable for bariatric patients, so I didn't know if maybe anyone here who had experience with this could clue me in.

I know it's a blend of Proteins, if that makes a difference - soy, milk, whey, and dried egg albumen which sounds super duper delicious. :)

Anyway, thanks for reading!

Pretty sure that's just a standard disclaimer. Many Protein powders have that language in the fine print. Since the macros meet your needs, I wouldn't worry about it, but you could run it by your dietician or nutritionist just to get a second opinion.

They have to put that on there because Protein creates muscle, and muscle is heavier than fat. People drinking it could possibly GAIN weight on it because they are putting on muscle (body builders). People like us who are drinking it to keep from losing muscle during weight loss are going to lose regardless. We just won't lose all the muscle with the fat. It is important to do that so that we don't lose hair, and our skin is in better shape to rebound as we lose, among other things. Go by the info on the chart and make sure it meets the requirements given to you by your Nut. B)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
