Addiction to Diet Coke and Coffee is GONE!

Recommended Posts

I'm just proud to announce I haven't had coffee or Diet Coke since I started my pre-op diet, and I don't really crave them. I never would've thought I could just quit both of them cold turkey! :)

Nice to hear! I am certainly addicted to dietcoke. I've made up my mind to give it up forever due to the potential to stretch the pouch, but I don't expect it to be easy. I remember giving up (ten) Tab soda each time I was pregnant, but begging for it after I delivered.

Will we ever be able to have diet coke and coffee again?

I was never given any restrictions on coffee. I'd kiss goodbye to all carbonated drinks - 9 months since I had any and except on the hottest of days I don't miss them at all now. Super cold Water and low cal iced tea or cordial do the trick.

I thought that I would NEVER be able to break that addiction because basically all I ever drank was Diet Coke but I quit cold turkey two weeks before surgery and haven't had any problem! I do miss the convenience of being able to stop and get something to drink while I'm out - I'm not a big fan of plain Water and I'm only allowed decaffienated tea which is pretty hard to find in convenience form but I'm getting better with keeping MIO in my pocket book so that I can just grab a bottle of Water somewhere...

Way to go! Caffeine addiction is one of the hardest to break. I started my diet on Saturday and haven't had a soda or coffee since then. I was surprised I don't really miss them either. What's made it easier for me is I drink sassy Water (cucumber, lemon, ginger, mint leaves). when u let it brew over night it tastes really good and refreshing the next day. What I'll miss more than soda is juice. I like drinking OJ with my Breakfast. I also love strawberry lemonade

I was never a big juice drinker (being diabetic pre-sleeve), but I still buy some low cal/reduced sugar OJ to have once in awhile. 1/2 cup of that, with a scoop of vanilla Protein powder and a handful of icecubes in the blender is a nice treat!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
