2nd fill--not fun!

Recommended Posts

Surgeon had a terrible time trying to find my port! Got poked at least 4 times! Last two times were even under X-ray! He had a hard time last time as well, but got it in with only one actual poke.

He said he would write down how he found it and we would do it under X-ray next time and it wouldn't be as bad. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I had that on my first fill with the surgeon and had to do it under flouro. The NP did my second fill with no problem. She went a lot slower than the surgeon. I go tomorrow for my third fill. I hope that one goes ok.

My first fill was with a NP. I love him cuz he's a good person and very professional. HOWEVER, he left me with a HUGE black and blue. It was so big and DARK, that I can still see the "outline" after 5 months. My current filler can fill me with his eyes CLOSED. He's jus that good.

my doctor has me lift my legs off the table about 2 inches and lift my head off table at the same time. i have had 4 fills i think and it has always been 1 shot no bruises left. the only thing is by lifting mylegs and head i do get a muscle spasm in my back for a day.

Both fills under fluro by surgeon. Spot on both times.

My first band surgeon was horrible at the fills. They would poke you first to deaden area a little, pillow under small of back and push stomach out and they would remove all and then add it back in so they knew how much was in there. I had lots and lots of problems. Long story short second band surgeon including NP and bothe surgeons it's a breeze. Like other poster I just raise my feet up. Never a problem finding port and if I'm going for .25 cc that's all they add. They thought removing it all and then putting it back in was kind of silly. I know it's really awkward to tell your doc you'd like someone else to do it. I'd have a hard time doing that. Bad fils were just one of many things wrong with first surgeon. I guess cute doesn't equate to competent. Lol

I had one fill initially and didn't have another until after I lost 80 lbs. The port used to be right at the surface, but after weight loss it is harder to locate! Luckily since I've had 3 surgeries in that area, the nerves are all dead. It used to bother me that that had happened, but now it is a blessing! Especially since they have to move the needle around to find the right spot! I'm done with fills for the time being. Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
