UNbLIVable 10 Posted December 16, 2013 I'm still having trouble getting 64oz Fluid down in a day, 80g Protein and 3 solid meals. Not really eating solid meals 3x per day. Anyone else feel my struggle? (I was sleeved last Monday) the thought of puréed chicken or tuna fish makes me nauseous. I posted a similar thread yesterday but I would love some tips, tricks and recipes for this stage! 1 chefcoll reacted to this
onsummit 117 Posted December 16, 2013 A week out seems too early to be worried about 3 solid meals. Work on the Water, the Protein ( shakes would be the way to go at this point ) Much more than that will be difficult. Perhaps pudding, a little mashed potato. JeanZ_RN 378 Posted December 16, 2013 Surely you are not on solid foods yet, at one week out?? I know all surgeons are different in that regard but ... ??? Most people have trouble getting their fluids and Protein in for the first week or two, so just do the best you can. If a food, or the thought of it, makes you nauseous then don't eat it. When you do introduce a new food item, go slow! And if your new small tummy rejects it, wait a week or two and try it again.
chefcoll 53 Posted December 16, 2013 Sleeved 12/10 - spoke w/ the NUT today. She said liquids #1 - Protein #2. and do not worry - it will all come together! Sounds so simple - Grrrrrrr! lol 1 sebastina reacted to this
McButterpants 2,846 Posted December 16, 2013 My doctor approved 2 tablespoons of food per day right after surgery - approved foods were things that would slide off a plate...applesauce, cottage cheese, sugar free Jello, sugar free pudding and surprisingly, scrambled eggs. But only 2 tablespoons per day. I struggled to get in the Protein and the Water, but actually having that little bit of food felt good, too. I would think that if your doctor's plan OK's real food this early, tuna salad or chicken salad would be very heavy and hard for your new tiny tummy to withstand and I can't imagine you would be able to eat much at all. Scrambled egg was a go-to for me. It never hurt my stomach. (I'm just over 4 weeks out and cannot eat an entire egg) What's on your approved diet?
UNbLIVable 10 Posted December 17, 2013 I can have scrambled egg, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, string cheese, purée tuna, purée chicken, shredded cheese on egg, fish, purée turkey. No apple sauce can have Jello and pudding too. Was supposed to be eating all these things this past week. NUT was mad at me today for only so far being able to eat a half an egg a day. NUT wants me to eat these foods 3x per day plus 2 Protein drinks!!!!!!
Threetimesacharm 1,400 Posted December 17, 2013 Wow that sounds unbelievable! I certainly would be worried that she is pushing you to eat so much. At two weeks out I was still on Clear Liquids advancing to liquids(protein shakes and the like). Maybe you should speak with someone else or your surgeon. flemoine 0 Posted December 17, 2013 That is surprising. I am a week post surgery and I can have Protein drinks, milk, cream-based Soups, greek yogurt, sugar free Jello or popsicles and Water, Water, water (can be mixed with crystal light). The Protein Drinks that I am drinking have 28 grams of Protein each so I drink 2 a day and then have greek yogurt and Soup broth. I can't have food (chicken, fish pureed) until day 15. It's interesting to see the differences.
McButterpants 2,846 Posted December 17, 2013 Someone in another group I belong to was allowed pureed foods really early as well. My NUT and doc want to me to make sure I'm getting adequate Protein - I can't do that with the little bit of food I can eat now (2 ounces of pureed chicken is a lot for me) - so they require 3 shakes or Protein supplements (that totals 60 grams of protein) and I get my other 20-30 grams from high-protein goods. You can only do what you can do - I'd try some of your lighter density foods to see if that works better. chicken was hard for me to do at first. Good luck!
