Having lapband replaced this Friday.... THOUGHTS plz.

Recommended Posts

I have decided to have my 10cc band replaced with the 14cc band due to complications. I am having surgery this Friday at 7am... And even tho this is my 2nd go around I've totally forgot what the healing and recovery process is like lol. I have a heating pad, gas x strips, pillows to sit up, broth, Popsicles , Water, and Protein Shakes. Am I missing anything ? I am so nervous that this go around is going to be painful. Has anyone else had their band replaced ? Was it much different from the first surgery? And did anyone else dr mention scar tissue removal? Thanks for reading.

Why do you need to have it replaced? What were the complication? How long have you had it?

Hi Rayne, isn't the anticipation just the worst? Hope you can get some rest tonight and then tomorrow you'll be out of surgery before you know it. Don't forget to walk all you can. Best wishes!

Hang in there! You seem to know what to expect. Just be careful driving home. Try and get a buddy to go with you. Good luck!

I'm also thinking of replacing my band with a bigger one. I had surgery in 2010 and lost only a total of 42lbs. I am currently down 23lbs from my original weight. My problem was not slippage but everything that I eat gets "stuck" and I have these "episodes" as I call them daily. Did your doctor suggest a bigger band as the solution?

if you take too big of bites or not chew well, this maybe a reason for constant stucks...and even with a bigger band, this could happen...just my thoughts..

My ride home post surgery was almost two hours. Happily, hubbie did his best to avoid the worst bumps and nasty spots on the road and we have a fairly comfy car so the ride home wasn't bad, at all. A requested extra bump of pain med before I left the surgical center helped, as well. :D

I had my size 10cc band for 3.5 years. It created scar tissue underneath bc of it being too small for my surgery. My main dr kept telling me that I'm eating wrong etc but I wasn't. I am a very by the book type person. So in January of 2013 I went to a new dr. He gave me options... It took me this long to decide. So I went back n we discussed it all again. Andddd now I'm 1 day post op. Dr said everything went amazing. He removed scar tissue and the band was indeed too small for my stomach. He doesn't understand why my main dr would have placed it in the first place. So, im hoping I'll be on the right path after all this liquid n mushie stuff is over lol.

Are you eating small portions and chewing? Yes my new dr told me I def needed a bigger band and I have scar tissue. I had surgery yesterday and the dr said I def had scar tissue which he removed and he said my 10 cc band was def too small. So I'm hoping things will get better. Ask your what he thinks.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
