Truth is that many of us worked 5:2 in a way that is "workable" for us. I don't track or count calories, but on my "fast" days I did try to have long fasting intervals - meaning stop eating 7pm the night before and don't eat till around noon or 1 the "fast day".

I am not sure that the longer fasting interval made a difference, but it worked for me and helped me keep overall calories/carbs down. If you feel really uncomfortable - don't do it - have the Protein drink!

I think reading up on it and sorta getting the principles or idea of 5:2 and then making it work for your life is the key.

Hi sorry I don't think I'm explaining my concern correctly so I'll try again. I plan on eating between 12 and 7pm 2 days a week. My problem is that I can't drink Water by itself, so I add the Syntrax nectar (fruit flavored ) to the Water. Will I be negating the fasting period by drinking the Syntrax in my water during 7pm and 12? I don't want to start 5.2 if drinking the Syntrax is going to be a problem. It has no carbs or fat but 1/2 a scoop in my water equates to 50 cal. I would be including those calories in my daily total. Thanks sorry to be a nuisance just trying to get my head around it. I know I can't drink 2 liters of Fluid from 12 to 7pm. Thanks

I am no expert. . But for me carbs are way more of a problem than calories so i think your plan is solid

If you drink Sytrax nectar, which is Protein, during the fast period, you would not have the fast. You should drink crystal light which does not have Protein and would be equal to Water and therefore count towards a fast which protein does not.

Does that make sense?

I've had a small regain since 2 surgeries sidelined me for 7 months. Is anyone actively starting 5:2 and those who use the protocol for 2013, are you still using it? I'm going to watch the video.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
