Recommended Posts

Hello fellow bandster !! Whoop whoop I'm 5 days post op. It's been a journey just taking it one day at a time. I haven't been able to go back to work yet and I do miss it . Have been following the liquid diet still. I'm still feeling tired so I do a lot of sleeping, but. I walk I walk between and also catching up on house work. Starting to wonder if I'm behind compared to everyone else who's been banded about the same time? My nurse says I can eat reg food now Protein then vegs so... I'll try for dinner so we will see how it goes !

I'm 7 days post op. I have to be on full liquids for another week, then soft foods before solids.....you are very lucky :) I'm getting nervous.....I had lost 13 pounds 2 days ago since my post op diet. Today I weighed in 2 pounds heavier :( I'm not too stressed over weight right now since this is the healing stage, but I can't deny I'm a little discouraged....

Congrats on getting banded and welcome to your new life! :D Don't worry about comparing yourself to anyone else at this or any other phase going forward. This is about YOU! This is about your life, your health, your personal journey. No one else's numbers matter. :D

Wow! You are progressing in your diet quickly. No judgments... We all have to follow the advice given by our medical team. I am just a little envious. I am nearly a month out and still on the mushy soft stuff and longing for real, solid food. LOL I can't wait until my first aftercare appointment on the 19th. I should get my okay to progress, then. *fingers crossed*

PLEASE don't compare yourself or your progress to anyone else here...everyone's progress is so individualized it just shouldn't be done....and you will hopefully spare yourself the grief over worrying or being upset that someone is losing more than you or eating different things!

Follow your docs orders to a "T" and hopefully success will be coming down the road on the journey you've just begun. I have and am happy to say things are going so well.

Looking forward to hearing all of your successes! :)

No need to be nervous, we have all been where you are and felt the same way but you will find it's not as bad as you think. Just remember to eat slow and chew thoroughly! Can't stress that enough!

Congratulations on joining us bandsters - we are a bunch of losers!! We each have our own journey to travel but we are all here for each other to make it easier for each other however we can.

Wishing you luck on your journey :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
