Need help on what to take to the hospital

Recommended Posts

Ok so at my doctors office they told me just to take slippers some comfortable clothes to wear while I'm there and to wear when I get out. I'm planning on taking my phone charger and my nook. Any other suggestions on what to take with me? Also what should I have at home when I get back home? I have my prescriptions already and my Protein to make shakes. My doctor said on my third day I could have any Soups just to strain them or blend them. Were y'all told the same thing? Any suggestions on what soups I could buy that have a decent taste? I know how to make soups but I don't want to cook my first days at home I don't know how I'm going to feel, I hope great =).

Here is a thread that lists several things you might need.

http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/181994-the-official-what-you-will-need-for-your-gastric-sleeve-surgery-thread/

One thing I found very helpful was a lip balm. I had to wait 24 hours after surgery before I was given anything to drink. This was due to having my leak test the next day after surgery.

I blended my Soups when I was able to have them. It depends on what you like. I was fortunate my tastes did not change, but have seen others post that things they liked pre-surgery they no longer liked how they taste.

Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

Lip balm and lotion, hospital air seems to dry me out. After surgery I enjoyed split pea Soup blended but that was my preference. I personally took advantage of my time in the hospital and slept for most of the time in there. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
