Itching like crazy!

Recommended Posts

It's been 10 days post op and I feel like I have poison ivy on my back. Can't stand it just took two Benadryl. Crushed of course. Anyone else having this problem?

Are you on pain medicine? If so, itching can be a side effect from drugs. As your incisions start to heal, you may also experience some itching. It would be too soon for that at this stage.

When I was a week or so out I had terrible itching all over. Then one day I went for a walk and got all sweaty went home and took a shower and the whole top layer of my skin peeled off. Then the itching stopped. I felt like a snake. It was weird. I have come across a few people that that has happened to. Weird, I know.

About the third day out I got hot flashes and sweat just pooled off of me. After that I got an itchy rash under my breast in my stomach fold and on my behind. I took Benadryl for a couple days and after about 2 weeks and many showers it just seemed to go away.

If you had surgical tape in any of the areas, that can cause an allergic reaction which sometimes does not show up until a few days later.

Yes I had the same issue only on my back... It's because ur dehydrated .. believe it r not... i was goig crazy thinking i had a allergic reaction... and ur skin is doing that because ur body is absorbing as much moisture as possible. Keep hydrated and also put some lotion on it regularly it should help!

I was itching like crazy for a couple weeks.. It eventually passed. I would wake up in the night violently scratching. I got all my fluids in. All i could do was take benedryl and put cortizone cream AROUND the incisions. Not on them. Keep them dry.

We think it was an allergy to the dermabond

I also had an allergic reaction to the dermabond. Itchy red rash all over my stomach. I used some cortisone (not on incisions of course) and took Benadryl and it subsided after a few days.

I'm 4 days post op and yesterday before I was discharged I starting itching like crazy I took a shower and it soothed it and while I was in my room waiting to be discharged I started itching bad again. The nurse told me it was the morphine to take some benedryl when I got home. It went away by the time I got home so I diving have to take benedryl.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
