I have been having pain near my port and in my stomach for the last week. I have not thrown up or been stuck but I just hurt. I even went to the ER and had a barium swallow ct done to check for a slip because i hurt so bad. The doc said that it looked perfect, no sign of prolapse and my band is right at the bottom of my esophagus like it should be. Has anyone else ever had this?

There could be a lot of reasons for this. Have you been checked for a hernia? And had your gallbladder checked? If I were you, I'd follow up with your family doctor ASAP and have him help you figure out what's going on.

I am going to make an appointment. I was glad my band looked good but still worry they missed something.

Don't make the common mistake of assuming every stomach pain you have is band related. More often than not, it's not related to the band at all and as a result people miss some pretty serious medical issues because of it.

I'm glad you're going to see your doctor. Good luck!

hi carrie , I am new to this forum having just placed my frist post . Like you I have had pain in port site area and had barium xray which confirmed in correct place but did not enlighten on cause of pain which when it occurs makes me fill quite ill , unlike you though I have been sick on occasions sometimes it is the only thing that makes it pass , sometimes I wonder if it is trapped air if this is the case sucking a mint helps disperse it but not always .

in response to missy, i have a large mass just above my port incision. i just thought it was normal. it started hurting and i had to hold it when i walked. the pain now goes to my back at the waist line. i asked my wls surgeon and she said that it wasn't normal and she didn't think it was band related. so i went to pcp. he ordered a abdominal ultrasound r/o hernia, hematoma, but what the ultrasound tech found was a huge gallbladder. no offical report yet but i had 3 ppl including the radiologists come in and take more pictures. so all the pain and nausea could be my gallbladder. and i just thought it was all normal. when there is pain and it becomes a interference with our life we need our doctor's to sort it out. once it is determine everything is okay than we try everything that is suggested here. keep us posted. i hope it isn't anything and a heating pad would help.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
