Surgery was 7/8/13-down 62 lbs

Recommended Posts

My weight loss has slowed down substantially the past 2 mths. Has anyone elses weight loss came to such a slow loser such as me? I've only lost 8 lbs in the past 2 mths.

Hello I was sleeved on 7/11/2013. I am the same. I have read a lot that at 5 and 6 months out this is normal. A 1 to 2 pound a week is normal. After the body goes through a rapid weight loss it slows down a bit. I just keep plugging along.

.

I did push my self a little harder at the gym that helps. It also depends on how much you have to loose. I think others that have more to loose it may be more than the 1 to 2 pounds but once you get closer to your goal it just takes longer.

I am now in a size 14/16 from a 22 so I couldn't be happier. I keep my carbs under 40 a day and I work out 4 days min a week. I figured that if I loose 5 to 8 pounds a month that would put me at goal around August and that would be 13 months from Surgery. I have happy with that. It is a life change for me and the scale I try to not think abut too much. I am just so happy my sleep apnea is gone and my feet don't hurt!

Hi Bella66,

I was sleeved on 7/3 and since surgery I've only lost 59 lbs. I've stalled for 4 weeks twice already and when I do start loosing again is very slow. Don't let it bother you...one pound lost it's better than nothing or adding a pound.

From an old timer who is coming up on two years out, has lost all of his excess and then some, and is as happy as a peach with results, it sounds like you are doing good.

The farther out I got after the first few months, the slower it went down. I decided at several points that the drop was over only to discover that it went on despite my not weighing myself.

Weight loss is a smaller part of this. Getting muscles in shape and getting healthy are higher priorities. These are the things that assure the permanence of your losing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
