New to these forums, day 4 after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum and I haven't really had a chance to look around on here, but thankfully my fellow bariatric roommate told me about the great support she's gotten on here.

I started out this whole journey in January, that's when I went to my first meeting and decided that this was the right choice for me. I weighed around 315 and I was miserable. I was borderline diabetic, had chronic back pain, and was just uncomfortable in my own skin. I went through everything I needed to and was all set to schedule my surgery in July, but unfortunately I had some insurance issues (my insurance ends June 30 and begins again in October 1) so I had to start up again in October and prove I still wanted to do this to the obesity clinic. I dropped my weight to 260 during the year, which was so hard to do but I was extremely determined. Finally I was scheduled for surgery December 10th. I had no issues and apparently my doctor told my family I had perfect anatomy and it was a very easy and smooth surgery.

I am now 4 days out and I am on my full liquid diet. I haven't had any issues tolerating anything, which is great. Do any of you have creative ways to get Protein in though? I only got 32 yesterday, so I need to double it without hurting my pouch by taking in too much. Is there anything I should watch out for? Any advice for newbies?

I drank Protein in just about all my liquids at first...I still do 2 Protein Drinks everyday...had surgery on 4/29. I rapidly switched to unflavored protein so I could add it to crystal light...protein and liquids all in one. Flavored shakes were just too thick for me...I couldn't stomach 4 sweet shakes a day.

At 4 days I was only doing about 40 and wasnt til around 6 or 7 days I got my full 60 grams plus....I know you said full liquids but some docs allow greek yogurt, cottage cheese sf Jello and sf pudding....I made sf pudding with Protein and also used Unjury chicken Soup flavored protein to break up the sweet but my favorite was adding unflavored protein to sf swiss miss ....they say to sip no more then 8oz an hour so go for the highest protein counts helps like Premier shakes have 30 grams of protein, they are premade come in chocolate and vanilla....my first week or so was spent Water 1 hour protein next hour and so on all day, I even set a timer lol...good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
