How much weight did you lose during your first month post-op?

Recommended Posts

It has been a 13 months since my sleeve. I stuck to the guidelines my Dr. gave me. I did some (not enough) exercise and have lost 150 lbs.

You just have to play by the new rules. Understand what you are told to do, take your Vitamins and keep your Fluid up. Don't waste your time with carbonated drinks.

Smartest move I ever made. Did my research for over 2 years. No leg pain, no back pain.

Don't be defeated AKDawn! I'm no vet for sure but I have read over this forum and an early stall is not all that rare!keep it up! I know that is easier said than one but it will work!

I had surgery on 11/19/2013 and lost 17 pounds in the first 10 days. I have not lost a single ounce since then! As a matter of fact, I have bounced up and down between the same 2 pounds. I am following the diet to the letter, keeping a food log, 60-100 grams of protein/day, 60-100 oz of water/day and exercising daily. This "stall" is almost three weeks old. Why is this happening so soon after surgery? I am devastated and severely disappointed! I have read that this surgery doesn't work for everyone. I pray I'm not one of those who fails and is doomed to obesity. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm quickly running out of hope and about to give up! :(

Whoa! Way too early to give up. Almost everyone has a stall right around the time you are talking about. If you google it, there are dozens of references. "Three week stall."

Also poster Butterthebean has an article in his signature on this very subject.

As far as giving up, have you ever lost 17 pounds in a week or so? Keep doing what you are doing and DON'T GIVE UP.

I had my surgery 11/11/13, I too have had periods of depression due to #'s on the scale. My surgeon told me he expected me to lose about 1 lb a day at first. At 4 weeks post op I was down about 16 lbs, I am now about 19.5lbs in a 5 weeks. I gained weight from the day I went into surgery until about 3-4 days post op due to all the IV fluids they gave me, then 7 lbs went off quickly. After the 1st week, I would lose a pound or two, have 3-4 days without any weight loss and then lose 1/2 lb to 1 lb. It would do that off and on. I have been exercising and eating as prescribed. It is frustrating especially when I weighed 282 lbs the day of surgery. I have to remember that we are all different, I'm not gaining, it's coming off slowly but it's coming off. I have more energy than I've had in a long time. Good luck to all of you. I wish you all success. I too know what a mental issue the weight has been in our lives. Robyn

Mist of us were disappointed at our 1 month weight loss. For me, I lost 20lbs and was very upset. We have unrealistic expectations and everyone is different. Som else more and some others less.mi am almost 10 months out now and 112lbs down. Be happy with the numbers going lower whether fast or slow. Stick to the program and follow instructions from you nut and surgeon and you'll lose weight. Good luck to you all.

Hi all!

I will be having my surgery in 4 days and I'm curious to know how much weight you lost during your first month?

Also, I took 2 weeks off of work and I'm wondering if people will notice any difference in 2 weeks...

I'd love to read your responses!!

I started my preop diet the day after Thanksging and as of today, 19 days later, I've lost just over 30 pounds, my surgery was 12/10.

I lost 14 pounds in the first month. I am happy with that. Our bodies are adjusting to so much. We have to be patient and consistent!

I know exactly how you feel because I"m going through the same thing you feel. I had surgery on the Nov 18th and lost 10 pounds the 1st week nothing since then. I actually haven't weighed in over a week because I didn't want to keep feeling defeated by the scale not moving. 3 week stalls are not a myth. It's just your body trying to adjust but it really sucks.

I had surgery 11/5. Lost 16 lbs that first 2-3 weeks then stalled. Went up and down between 229-231 and it drove me nuts. I was positive I would be one of those people that this surgery would not work for. But finally at week 4.5 my stall broke and now I'm down to 224. Oddly it seemed that increasing my calories to 800-900 a day helped. At least I think it did. That, and taking a laxative if I haven't had a bm in 4-5 days. I don't recommend that as a weight loss trick but when you're backed up, you're backed up.

First of all congrads on your surgery. I am having mine in 3 weeks. I did hear in the past that increasing Protein and calories helps to give weightloss a kick in a butt :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
