Unjury protein cheese sauce

Recommended Posts

Saw this on their website when I ordered my unflavored Protein Powder. Being a "cheesehead", how could I resist? 140 calories, 21grams Protein, 2g sugar and 3.5g fat....pretty much in the same ballpark of a lot of Protein Shakes so I have used it in place of one of my three shakes on some days. Fortunately, I am allowed green veggies on my preop diet, so I have used it as a dip for broccoli, green Beans, zucchini, etc. Also poured it over Brussel sprouts and mixed with spinach. Yum! For post op, it will definitely be something I will eat with eggs, chicken, whatever, when I get to those stages.

I've been wondering about that and how it tasted. Thanks for posting about it

It's definitely not as yummy as the real thing (for example, PB2 is closer to real Peanut Butter than this is to real cheese) It's basically a "watered down" low fat cheese sauce (not rich and creamy) but after all those vanilla, chocolate, and other sweet Protein Drinks it's heaven.

I got that stuff but I keep screwing it up. The first time I got it too hot and it was chunky and pasty. It was really gross. The second time I made sure not to get it too hot but I put too much Water in it and it was still kind of chunky. I would like to try it again but I feel like Im just going to waste it again. Any suggestions??

I mix mine in Water or Soup with a Blender Bottle (the kind with the wire whisk ball in it) then I heat it up slowly (like 10-20 seconds at a time in the micro) until it's warm. Never had clumps.

BTW, being postop on full liquids now, I've discovered this is really good mixed in chicken broth or especially delicious with the Swanson's Mexican Tortilla Soup Base broth

My package just arrived in today's mail, and I was trying to figure out how I'd use it..... Thanks for the tips, I'll make sure not to get it too hot. I've been heating my carnation instant Breakfast in the morning, and if I make it too hot the scoop of Protein powder I add in gets clumpy and disgusting. I need to get it to kind of luke warm, not boiling. Sounds like the cheese sauce will be the same way. Maybe I'll try some on the next scrambled egg I make!

Idle wood...any Protein powder can't be mixed above 130-140 degrees or it will denature and clump up. Kind of like what happens to an egg white when you heat it..it turns from a liquid to a solid.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
